Even before the sequel premiered, fans have seen the dragons in Season 1 exhibit their own quirks and personalities. They are more defined now in the second installment, as evident in the recent events in previous episodes.

House Of The Dragon Gets Praised For Giving Its Dragons Life And Color

A fan noted how House of the Dragon managed to bring out the unique traits of each dragon on the show. Indeed, they are fierce and mighty, but they aren’t just mindless beasts. As Edgar Ortega wrote on Twitter, the prequel show did more justice than Game of Thrones.

Within two seasons, House of the Dragon has given the dragons more unique personalities (with limited screen time) than GOT ever did. Vhagar is the boomer, Caraxes the weirdo, Seasmoke super needy, Sunfyre & Syrax the big puppies, and Silverwing & Vermithor the royal beasts.

The past episodes had been tough on the audience, but it was an opportunity to shift the focus to the dragons. Before the Battle at Rook’s Rest, Sunfyre was seen playfully nudging King Aegon. In Episode 6, Seasmoke flew to Driftmark to search for his own rider as he didn’t like Ser Steffon Darklyn.

Silverwing, in Episode 7, was seen as very gentle, especially after she met Ulf White, one of the dragonseeds – Targaryen bastards – who went to Dragonstone in hopes of claiming a dragon.

However, another fan contrasted the earlier statement and replied: “Shouldn’t the dragon show focus more on the actual dragons? This is a lazy take, but I like your dragon breakdown.”

Ortega counters how Game of Thrones had a character called Mother of Dragons (referring to Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen) whose children possessed certain traits that fans never got to see. “Drogon being independent, Rhaegal wild and dangerous, and Viserion the mama’s boy. The show neglected to portray this from the page,” the fan explained.

The dragons in Game of Thrones possessed distinct personalities, but this was almost cast aside to focus on the storyline. It was great to watch the feral beasts in House of the Dragon be goofy and all.

In an interview with History of Westeros, showrunner Ryan Condal confirmed the team worked hard to bring the dragons to the screen using state-of-the-art technology.

I get to spend so much time with them because of the intricate making of one and how it’s designed in 2D and then modeled into 3D, and then as they come alive in the sound world with our incredible sound team, as they develop their personalities that way.

They also toil in embedding personalities on the dragons not only through design but also through their sounds. This goes to show how much effort they put into details.

House of the Dragon Season 2 is streaming on HBO.
