Pokemon Go first debuted in 2016 as Nintendo’s earliest foray into the mobile gaming industry. The free-to-play title utilizes AR to give the illusion of pocket monsters from across various generations of the franchise hanging out in the real world.

There’s no doubt that Pokemon has been a massive hit among gamers, grossing billions for Niantic and Nintendo. However, the game’s core gameplay brings a unique problem that you’ll never see with any other games: drawing unwarranted attention from the police!

Pokemon Go Player Gets Questioned by Police Deputy

It’s a known fact that Pokemon Go trainers have had all kinds of run-ins with police and criminals at this point. In fact, some have even committed major offenses themselves, with players being arrested for driving vehicle distracted, assault, and other sketchy behavior.

However, in this case, the trainer wasn’t doing anything to intentionally draw attention but ended up with it anyway.

Reddit user stshlee shared their story with other trainers on the game’s official subreddit, detailing how they were trying to find a parking spot to spin stops, and catch some mons’. However, the way they went about it ended up drawing the attention of a cop.

Who else is a proud member of the “I’ve been “pulled over” by a police officer while pokemoning” club?

According to the trainer, they were at the church on the street catching Pokemon. They were driving around in an unusual way while playing the game, which caught the attention of the deputy, who pulled them over.

Thankfully, after showing them their game, the police deputy apparently understood and laughed before letting the player go. Other trainers also chimed in and shared similar encounters with authorities.

Another Reddit user was stopped at 2 am right in their own neighborhood while they were trying to catch a Bulbasaur! The police thought that the trainer was selling or buying drugs and decided to question them.

Pokemon Go‘s encouragement of walking, particularly in areas that may be unfamiliar, can sometimes lead to significant misunderstandings. However, it’s great to see trainers coming together and sharing some of their stories, which can be a perfect lesson for other trainers on how to be careful while they’re playing the Niantic title.

Niantic Needs to Refresh Pokemon Go With Major Updates

Mega Lucario in Pokemon Go

While it’s great to see that Pokemon Go players are sharing their stories and adventures, the game hasn’t been doing all that well. In the last couple of years, player count has dropped off a cliff, and trainers are blaming Niantic for the lack of meaningful updates to keep them engaged.

Over the years, fans have desperately requested Niantic to add many basic features to the title, but the developers have yet to bother. Trainers constantly criticize the title’s trading feature, the mediocre community system in the game, and recycled content.

Although Niantic has assured the players that the game is here to stay for a long time, the lack of actions doesn’t really give players a lot of hope.

Let’s hope with the upcoming rumored introduction of Dynamax and Gigantamax features, Niantic can bring Pokemon Go back to its glory days and capture a brand-new audience.
