“Holy heck”: One Character Spotted in Batman: Caped Crusader Seemingly Confirms Bruce Timm’s Plan for 1940’s Superman Animated Show Revival

Batman: Caped Crusader dropped a huge hint about which other DC flagship characters might exist in this version of the DCU.

  • The show features a character that sounded and looked strikingly like Lois Lane, sort of confirming that there could be a Superman in this universe too.

Batman: Caped Crusader has taken a very unique take on the character of The Dark Knight. Stripping him of most of his modern-day gadgets, Batman must face a slew of his modern antagonists in a new light, that too at the very beginning of his career as Gotham’s Bat Knight.

However, there seems to be some confirmation about the existence of another hero in this universe. We know that the world of Batman: Caped Crusader is not as grounded in reality as audiences first thought, given that the show straight-up features magic. However, a character in the show hints at some science fiction elements that could make their way into the show, with one particular hero among their ranks.

While Batman: Caped Crusader does not do much to set up a wider DC Universe, eagle-eyed fans have managed to spot Lois Lane in the show. Looking striking like her iteration in Fleischer Studios’ Superman films, the character has excited fans about the wider implications of her presence in Batman: Caped Crusader.

While this could just be an easter egg snuck in by Bruce Timm, the creator was well known for his work in the DCAU, which started out with individual shows for Superman and Batman, before transitioning to the Justice League and Batman Beyond.

While it’s unlikely that Superman will receive yet another animated show (with My Adventures With Superman going strong), the character could still make an appearance, perhaps in the episode titled World’s Finest.

Is Bruce Timm looking to flesh out the 1940s DC Universe after Caped Crusader?

As of the writing of this article, Timm has not revealed any information about expanding the Caped Crusader universe. While the show has received great reviews, it might just earn it a second season rather than a full-on expansion, with other IPs. Given that the DCU will be gearing up for its first major release with Superman in 2025, it makes more sense for the franchise as a whole to focus on that or the time being.

However, this does not mean that other characters are out of the question for the Caped Crusader. While other flagship heroes like Superman and Wonder Woman might not appear in the show in full force, characters like The Question could still make an appearance. Other street-level vigilantes and magic users can also make an appearance on the show, given that magic is said to exist in the universe of Batman: Caped Crusader.
