Charlie Cox’s Daredevil is a fan-favorite superhero show that was first introduced in 2015. The show lasted for three seasons, and was not made part of the mainstream MCU. However, with the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again, that is set to change, with Cox’s character expected to be one of several who will play a major role in the upcoming Avengers saga as well.

The series, set for a release sometime in 2025, will see the return of several iconic characters related to Daredevil. This includes Foggy Nelson, who was played by Elden Henson in the original series, and is set to appear in the upcoming show as well.

However, according to Charlie Cox himself, that would not have been possible had Marvel decided to stick to the original plan. That involved a brief cameo for Henson in the first episode, and would have been more of ‘fan service,’ rather than a genuine story tool.

Charlie Cox reveals Elden Henson was not supposed to be an integral part of Daredevil: Born Again

There are several reasons why fans are excited about the premiere of Born Again. Cox’s Daredevil has for years been expected to become a major part of the MCU. Apart from his own series, Cox was also part of Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which he was seen offering Tom Holland’s Spider-Man legal counsel, as well as acting as Happy Hogan’s lawyer.

Regardless, Elden Henson’s Foggy was not only a major Daredevil ally in the original series, he also shared a hilarious camaraderie with Charlie Cox, and his non-inclusion surely would have irked many. Henson is now expected to be a major part of the show, even if Cox himself revealed that was not the original plan:

Elden wasn’t invited to join the show at first…they had written in a cameo in the first episode to end the link between the shows and give the old fans closure, but they scrapped that in the new version.

Hence, the initial plan was to include a sheer cameo in the first episode, which would have explained why Foggy Nelson no longer remained the kind of staunch ally for Daredevil as seen in the first series.

By itself, Daredevil: Born Again has been under production for several years, and underwent a creative overhaul earlier in 2024. This was down to creative vision, as the series itself underwent multiple delays, and production for the first 9 episodes initially kicked off only in March 2023.

This was followed by another shooting stint from January to April 2024, with the production set to be concluded at the end of 2024, as things stand. The series is set to feature a range of returning characters, including the likes of Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), Wilson Bethel (Benjamin Poindexter/Bullseye), Jon Bernthal (Frank Castle/Punisher), and Ayelet Zurer (Vanessa Fisk), in addition to Cox.

Some new faces have also been finalized, including Margarita Levieva as Heather Glenn, Michael Gandolfini as Daniel Blade, and Genneya Walton as BB Urich. Hence, even if it is currently unclear what the series is set to offer fans when it comes to overall narrative, the return of several characters, and a promising future means that Born Again is bound to be well-met by fans, when it eventually releases.
