House of the Dragon season 2 has pretty much neared its end, with its season finale right around the corner. And, of course, a lot of questions are yet to be answered through this final episode, episode 8. But while the other character-related queries are one thing, the recently released episode 7, The Red Sowing, is further raising the stakes for the saga.
This stands even more true after the recent turn of events which had fans pointing out one crucial hidden detail about dragon Silverwing in the saga. And after the events that happened in episode 7 regarding all the dragons that were claimed by their respective dragon riders, this hidden detail is actually setting the stakes really high for the final episode.
House of the Dragon S2: This Silverwing Detail is Setting the Stakes High for the Finale
In the recently released episode 7 The Red Sowing, a lot of unexpected things happened that landed as a surprise to fans. One of these moments saw Rhaenyra calling out for Targaryen bastards to claim dragons. Of the people who respond to it, Keiran Brew’s Hugh the Hammer and Tom Bennett’s Ulf the White are included as well.
After responding to the call, this duo made their way to the Dragonstone, where Vermithor and Silverwing awaited in a pool of fire. And, boldly enough, Hugh claims Vermithor, all the while seemingly proving the inclusion of Saera Targaryen in the saga. But that’s not all; what’s actually surprising is that Ulf ends up with Silverwing as well!
While that’s that, following this turn of events, a fan @LordSnow on X couldn’t help but point out one major hidden detail about Silverwing in the series: The fact that, although she has been alive and around for nearly a century, Silverwing doesn’t have even a single scratch on her wings, as opposed to pretty much every other dragon.
That being said, deeming her the ‘Queen of the Dragons’ might not be an exaggeration after all. Here’s the exact caption @LordSnow added to snippets of the dragon from the episode:
Almost 100 years old and not a single scratch on her wings. The real Queen of the Dragons [Fire emoji]
Of course, Silverwing deserves all the praise she gets because she is quite literally one of the most beloved dragons in the entire saga. But what doesn’t sit right is the fact that the one to claim her was Ulf the White. This is because he is pretty much of a coward, as many fans would agree since he even went to the Dragonstone in the first place due to peer pressure.
With this being put out there, it becomes incredibly confusing as to why such a perfect dragon, who might as well be called the Queen of the Dragons, would choose a rider like Ulf. Additionally, now that Silverwing has already chosen him, what next? Of course, with a dragon rider like Ulf, the stakes are set incredibly high for the season finale.
But while that bar has been already set up for a risky concluding episode 8 for the second season of House of the Dragons, fans can’t help but heap praise on Silverwing while admitting that she does, indeed, deserve to be crowned the queen of all the other dragons.
Fans Agree with Silverwing Being Called the “Queen of the Dragons”
As the second season of the series nears its end, this recent turn of events has indeed set up some major risky elements for the season finale. The stakes are set further high by this detail about Silverwing pointed out by the fan. But while that’s that, fans are okay with just appreciating the dragon and praising it for its sheer existence for now.
Taking to X, here’s what those fans have to say:
All of this being put out there, it would unarguably be incredibly interesting to see the series of events unfold in the last episode of season 2 as Silverwing continues to shine in the saga, but now with Ulf as her dragon rider. Then there are key factors about Hugh, Rhaena, and Addam the Hull’s dragons as well, so fans might as well be in for an explosive season finale.
House of the Dragon season 2 episode 8 drops on Max on the 4th of August, 2024. The rest of the series can be streamed on Hulu.
