One such moment that fans love is his jab at the 1994 film Interview with the Vampire, starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.

In a particularly memorable scene from the 2018 movie, the titular anti-hero told Karan Soni’s character, Dopinder, “I’ll never not picture that” when the latter asked him to picture the taxi driver as Kirsten Dunst, referring to the unlikely pairing of Cruise and Kirsten Dunst in the gothic horror film.

Not just, the Merc with the Mouth took a subtle jab at the movie, when Dopinder asked him to recount the 1997 movie, where he replied, “I don’t want to.”

Even the Merc with a Mouth found the collaboration less than stellar, as the segment referred to Cruise’s vampire turning Young Dunst’s Claudia character into a vampire, who is then trapped in a young girl’s body while her mind matures over centuries.

The Merc with the Mouth is known for his dark humor, whose take on the old movie, inadvertently contributed to its legacy. Based on Anne Rice’s novel, the movie sought to capture the dark essence of vampire lives, but ended up garnering mixed responses among critics and audiences alike.

Despite a promising cast, it couldn’t resonate with viewers, with many criticizing it for pacing issues and the perceived lack of chemistry between the lead actors.

Pitt’s melancholic Louis, and the Top Gun actor’s ruthless Lestat brought their considerable talents to the screen. However, their teamwork often felt strained and the portrayal failed to capture the depth of their complex relationship, as depicted in the novel.

What’s more surprising was their behind-the-scenes drama as they avoided even mere greetings and basic friendly gestures. The Bullet Train actor shared at the time (via Tango).

There came a point during filming when I started really resenting him. He’s North Pole, I’m South. He’s always coming at you with a handshake, whereas I may bump into you. There was this underlying competition that got in the way of any real conversation.

These off-screen tensions may have seeped into their performances, ultimately affecting the film’s potential to fully engage its audience. The movie garnered $223.5 million worldwide via the Numbers.

Interview with the Vampire is available on AMC.
