“I completely forgot about T.J. Miller’s character”: TJ Miller’s Exit From Deadpool Franchise After Ugly Feud With Ryan Reynolds Led to Something Better Than Weasel

Who needs Weasel when Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool has two of the most wholesome characters by his side?

Deadpool and Weasel TJ Miller

SUMMARY

  • Weasel is a supporting character played by T.J. Miller in the first two Deadpool films but after some controversies and a feud with Ryan Reynolds, Miller was a no-go for the threequel.
  • Dopiner (Karan Soni) and Peter (Rob Delany) are also supporting characters, albeit fans seem to have more of a soft corner for them compared to Weasel.
  • Unlike Miller, both Soni and Delany's characters appear in the latest Marvel tentpole helmed by Shawn Levy.

Remember Weasel? The bespectacled bartender who doubled as Deadpool’s sidekick and a trusted information liaison? Yeah, him. Wasn’t his friendship with Wade Wilson just the sweetest? Perhaps not so much off the cameras, but not for a lack of trying (maybe).

But – and since every cloud has a silver lining – T.J. Miller’s departure from the superhero franchise, chaotic as it may have been, precipitated something much more wholesome, and unexpectedly so.

What Happened to the Deadpool x Weasel Duo?

On the screen? They were as iconic as any other dynamic duo. But behind the cameras? Not so much.

On the off chance that you weren’t aware, T.J. Miller – the actor who played Weasel in the first two Deadpool outings but is a no-show in Deadpool & Wolverine – accused Ryan Reynolds of being “horrifically mean” after newfound stardom following the 20l6 hit.

During an appearance on The Adam Corolla Show, Miller claimed he wouldn’t have returned for Deadpool 3 even if he’d been promised double his initial paycheck. “Would I work with him [Reynolds] again? No, I would not work with him again,” he remarked.

So, now you know why the disfigured mercenary’s usual bff was permanently off the clock during Deadpool & Wolverine. From the looks of it, though, fans don’t appear to have missed Weasel much, either.

But it’s not all bad, especially since we still have two gems of characters very much in the franchise.

Weasel, Who? Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool Has These 2 Legends By His Side

Why would Deadpool need Weasel when he has a gullible but kindhearted Dopinder and the fan-favorite plebeian Peter right by his side?

Played by Karan Soni – who has been loyal to the character in all three films – Dopinder is a goody-two-shoe cab driver with a wholesome smile and a whole lot of naïveté who appears as a supporting character beside Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth.

And then there’s Rob Delany’s Peter. Everyone loves Peter, your classic everyman who joined the X-force in Deadpool 2 with no superpowers and the sole intention of having “fun.”

You could say that Peter filled the shoes of Weasel rather perfectly, so much so that fans didn’t even miss the latter in the latest threequel.

Of course, each character had his own role to play and fans are rooting for both sides, but perhaps what happened was for the best, at least for the film’s background, if not for anything else.
