After Captain America star Chris Evans had his final run as the superhero in Avengers: Endgame, fans thought that would be the end of his tenure in the MCU. However, Ryan Reynolds gave the fans what they wanted but with a hilarious twist. Evans returned to homeground in Deadpool & Wolverine, except as the Human Torch.
The twist in his cameo seemed to have created waves among the fandom as it was totally unexpected. Evans had maintained and still does that he would not be returning as Captain America anytime soon and this fun cameo was a surprise. A fan noticed that Evans’ suit in Deadpool 3 had many inspirations from Cap’s suit.

Chris Evans has portrayed the first Avenger, Captain America, in the MCU since 2011. The actor portrayed the ever-optimistic American hero Steve Rogers with the perfect blend of hope and discipline. His character arc came to be satisfying close in Avengers: Endgame, which saw him grow old and pass the mantel of Captain America to Sam Wilson.
While Evans mentioned multiple times that he would not return to the franchise anytime soon, he made a surprising cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. Evans meets Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in the void and gives them an introduction to what the wasteland-esque place is.

However, a twist reveals that it is not Steve Rogers but Johnny Storm, a.k.a. The Human Torch from Fox’s Fantastic Four films, which starred Evans in the role. While fans were ecstatic to see their beloved actor again, some were quick to notice that Johnny Storm’s suit had some traces of Captain America in it.
The actor mentioned that not much time went into the suit in Deadpool & Wolverine, compared to the long design process of Fantastic Four (via EW).

Chris Evans’ Captain America had a lasting legacy much like Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark. However, unlike the latter’s new role as Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, Evans mentioned that he was done with the role of Steve Rogers and would not be returning.
The actor mentioned that he came on board Deadpool & Wolverine because he was excited to work with Ryan Reynolds (Evans had a cameo in Free Guy as well) and he wanted to revisit Johnny Storm. He said to US Weekly,
Oh man, I don’t know. I think… you know, those were wonderful, wonderful times and it’s probably the dearest role to my heart but… you know, it might be better just to let those times be those times…I have a lot of love in my heart for Johnny Storm and so getting that call from Ryan… I mean I would do anything for Ryan, but getting to yell flame on again was just special. I really loved every second.
He also mentioned that Reynolds just shot him a text asking him if he wanted to revisit a 20-year-old character and Evans was game.
Deadpool & Wolverine are in cinemas now.
