Deadpool & Wolverine continues to defy expectations at the global box office and seems to be on its way to becoming one of the biggest Marvel Studios movies of all time. Part of its appeal is the many cameos it has from actors and characters who once used to be part of the larger Marvel universe. Hence, it was a surprise and a delight to see Jennifer Garner reprise her role of Elektra from years ago.

Having once portrayed the character with her ex-husband Ben Affleck in the 2003 movie Daredevil, the actress also paid a subtle homage to Affleck’s Daredevil, an act that many of us never noticed.

Jennifer Garner starred as Elektra way back in 2003 and even reprised the role in her movie in 2005. However, back then, the appeal of the character was such that it failed to kick off a franchise or potential sequels. Yet, fans over time have come to love Garner’s portrayal.
The wishes of fans to see the actress star in her Marvel role finally materialized in this year’s Deadpool & Wolverine. Reprising her role nearly 20 years after her last outing, Garner shines along with her fellow co-stars, many of whom also reprised their iconic roles from previous Marvel movies not part of the MCU.
Starring as a variant in the Wastelands aka the Void, the actress threw a subtle dig at Ben Affleck‘s Daredevil by stating ‘Oh, it’s fine‘, after Deadpool went on to express his condolences to all the Marvel characters who were unable to survive. The actress even paid homage to Daredevil, a feat which many did not seem to notice.
Along with her iconic red and black suit, the actress’ outfit in Deadpool & Wolverine consisted of a belt that resembled the one that Affleck wore as the blind crime-fighting vigilante in the 2003 movie, Daredevil. A sweet nod to their first venture into the larger Marvel universe, it was a delight to see her as the deadly assassin in red.

Jennifer Garner has always looked iconic in the original Elektra suit she wore during her initial appearance. However, when she reprised her role in the recently released Deadpool & Wolverine, the actress can be seen wearing a different yet similar suit. Furthermore, the Daredevil-inspired belt was a new addition to Elektra’s usual look.
Recently, after the news of Garner paying homage to Daredevil went viral on the internet, fans had a wide range of reactions. Some fans expressed regret that Garner played a variant of Elektra instead of reprising the one variant she played in the previous two films.
Sadly she was a variant cause she didn’t have green eyes

Some others expressed that it would have been better for Elektra to have donned the Daredevil suit since her Daredevil was already dead and gone.
Would have been cool to have her in Daredevil' suit, since her Daredevil died. pic.twitter.com/yZM1ddxx8r

Yet, some others went on to state how the belt looked completely different than the one Affleck wore in his movie, kicking off a debate.
It’s the the same belt. You know how I know? A little thing called vision….🤦🏻♂️

Those are not even remotely close to being the same belt

While fans continue to debate about whether or not Elektra was paying homage to Daredevil, there is no denying that it was good to see Jennifer Garner reprise her role after all these years. As Deadpool & Wolverine continues to wreak havoc at the global box office, we can’t help but be grateful for the film to bring all these iconic Marvel characters back into the Marvel-verse.
