Tite Kubo’s Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War had the old generation of anime fans jumping in excitement. After 366 episodes, Bleach went on a hiatus. Almost after a decade, it came back with the final arc. While everyone feared that fans might not like it, the exact opposite happened.
Kubo had hoped for Bleach to work, and it did work, increasing its fan following substantially. Tite Kubo has always been straightforward with his words and work. Whatever he decides is good for his magnum opus, he does it. He even confirmed during an interview that he is pretty focused on his work.
Tite Kubo’s Love For Foreign Languages Was Depicted Through Bleach
Thanks to Tite Kubo, Bleach has several elements from the Western world. The mangaka prefers English songs over Japanese songs and even listens to MTV while working on his drafts. Another thing that the mangaka is pretty fond of is Spanish words. He has included multiple Spanish words in his works even though he does not speak it. Kubo did not care for the grammatical mistakes. Whatever sounded right and matched his feelings was included.
During an interview, he said,
“When I choose Spanish terms for Bleach, the most important thing is the sound of it. I generally have an idea of what I want to convey. Then, I flip through a dictionary and look up a lot of words with similar meanings. Out of those choices, I pick the word that matches the right feeling, and that has a good sound to it I’m sure to the native speakers it might have grammatical problems. But that’s a part of my work and my expression too.”
It is applaudable that the mangaka is following his heart, but it could have caused the fans to lash at him. Since the anime and the manga industry went mainstream, the creators have to maintain a lot of things so that they do not hurt the fans. Purposely including Spanish words, while considering the grammar could have had a different outcome. Thankfully, everyone loved those Spanish inclusions. Moreover, the Arrancar arc is one of the best Bleach arcs ever.
Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Has German Words
Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War part three is set to come out later in 2024. The previous two parts have helped in setting up the narrative and painted a clear picture. Yhwach has proven to be a formidable foe, bringing his army to the Soul Society and killing Genryusai Yamamoto.
Currently, Ichigo Kurosaki and his friends are trying their best to bring down the antagonist, who is doing everything possible to break the balance of the world. Like the Arrancar arc, the Thousand Year Blood War arc has multiple foreign words. While the previous one had Spanish words, the current one has German words.
But the fans are enjoying every bit of the new dialects. Tite Kubo’s confidence helped the manga grow with so many foreign words. Even if there were grammatical mistakes, the fans have made peace with it. More than finding the mistakes, they are busy getting entertained by the anime.
Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War can be streamed on Crunchyroll, and the manga is available on Viz Media.
