Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s MCU entry, Deadpool & Wolverine, has turned out to be one hell of an entertaining ride ever since it was released worldwide on July 26. Posed to become a potential blockbuster even before its release, the movie, as was expected, has already broken countless box office and Marvel records and more.

Given its success, many have been calling it a success similar to that of Avengers: Endgame and Infinity War. However, it is not all true for Marvel movies have performed exceptionally well at the box office in comparison to other movies, even post Endgame.

Deadpool & Wolverine has broken several records already, whether it is its marketing campaign or trailer release; the film was poised to be a potential blockbuster months before its release. As was predicted, the film is doing that and a bit more when it comes to its extraordinary performance at the global box office.

Having the 6th biggest domestic opening of all time, the movie so far has grossed $298.2 million domestically and is expected to have a worldwide tally of over $800 million by Sunday. Currently aiming for the top-grossing R-rated film of all time banner, no one really expected that a Marvel flick with an R-rating would perform such legendary feats at the box office (see THR).

However, the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman starrer movie is not the first MCU flick to have performed so well at the global box office after the remarkable success of Avengers: Endgame. In comparison to other movies at the box office, MCU flicks have mostly reigned supreme even when they are unable to reach the break-even point.

A slight glance at the Worldwide Box Office for every year since 2012 (except 2020) will prove that Marvel movies have always occupied a high position in the list of highest-grossing movies. And that has remained even after Endgame, an era deemed by many dominated by ‘superhero fatigue’ and claims of Marvel having lost its movie magic.

Deadpool & Wolverine is expected to be one of the highest-grossing movies of all time and fans are certainly here for it. After waiting decades for such an iconic team-up, the wait has been worth it for Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Shawn Levy have delivered beyond expectations.

However, the claims of the flick being Marvel’s first real success after Avengers: Endgame do not sit right with fans of the superhero-verse. Since Marvel movies have always performed better than other movies at the global box office, fans believe MCU has been singlehandedly keeping the theater business alive.

With Deadpool & Wolverine, one of the many blockbuster entries of the franchise, the MCU is expected to carry out similar feats in the future given its recent update of Robert Downey Jr. portraying Doctor Doom in the MCU. As fans renew interest in the franchise, there is no denying that MCU has been vital in keeping the theatre business booming.

Meanwhile, as Deadpool & Wolverine is still in its second week of release, one can only wonder what more feats it will achieve.
