The former Pirate King of the One Piece universe, Gol D. Roger, and his crew are the only characters in the entire series who know what the treasure is. They are also the only ones who know about the true history of the Ancient Kingdom and the epic war that led to the creation of the world that we see today.
However, even though Roger claimed the One Piece for himself, his comment about being 20 years early has been bugging fans for years. No one knows what Roger meant by it and how it would affect the future narrative. Thus, fans have been trying to figure out what Eiichiro Oda might have foreshadowed with his cryptic message.
While there have been multiple theories about it, one of these theories talks about the involvement of the Ancient Weapons that caused the twenty-year delay. This involvement is linked with the three planets around which these dangerous and mysterious Ancient Weapons are based.
One Piece Theory Explains Why Gol D. Roger Was 20 Years Early
According to a theory posted by u/L7Z7Z, the orbital periods of the three planets Uranus, Neptune (Poseidon), and Pluto (Pluton) are 84 years, 165 years, and 284 years, respectively. If Oda had taken different proxies according to the timeline of One Piece, these orbital periods would be 88 years for Uranus, 160 years for Poseidon (Neptune), and 266 years for Pluto (Pluto).
Thus, according to these orbital periods, it would take all three planets 800 years to align, considering their initial alignment to be year 0. The theory states that the moment they aligned, it could result in the activation of the three Ancient Weapons, which could thus be used for wreaking havoc or saving the world, depending on which side possesses them.
If the One Piece timeline is taken into consideration, these Ancient Weapons might have been used before the Void Century, and that would shift their next activation moment 800 years into the future.
Thus, when Gol D. Roger reached Laugh Tale, he realized he was 20 years early and would have to wait to activate the Ancient Weapons.
The Ancient Weapon’s Connection To The One Piece Treasure
While it has not been officially established in the story, there is a strong possibility that Oda might have established a connection between the three Ancient Weapons and the One Piece treasure. Either it is some kind of tool or technological key that connects all three weapons, or it’s a map or a guide to know details about the Ancient Weapons.
These weapons can cause mass destruction, as seen by Imu’s use of Uranus on Lulusia Kingdom. Therefore, Joy Boy might have tried to hide a crucial component of these weapons that might have stopped the war. This also explains why the World Government has been trying to hide details about the poneglyphs, Joy Boy, and everything related to him.
If these things get into the hands of someone else, they would become the strongest power in the One Piece world. This would hurt the authority of the World Government, which is the most important thing to them. While all of this is just an assumption, it perfectly aligns with all the mysteries that Eiichiro Oda has foreshadowed in the series.
