The much anticipated Naruto live-action movie by Lionsgate has finally gotten a new update, but it is not something that fans were hoping to hear. The movie was announced way back in 2015, but ever since, no solid news about the movie’s production being started has been given to the fans. And now, it looks like this movie is going to be a disaster.

Live-action adaptations have a habit of disappointing the fans as they are not able to live up to the expectations. But this curse was recently broken by the famous One Piece live-action series by Netflix. This led to Naruto fans building hope and excitement for the live-action version of the series. However, according to a recent report, the producers of the movie don’t have any clue about what they are doing.

And although Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of the series, has signed off on the project, he is not at all involved with the movie, which makes it even more difficult for the showrunners and creators to develop the movie.

Naruto Live-Action Movie Might Fail Tremendously

According to a report posted by Matt McGloin on Cosmic Book News, he got insider information that the producers of Lionsgate play who are working on the Naruto live-action movie don’t know the story of the manga and the anime series at all. They are only involved in the project to take advantage of the already built-up audience.

McGloin stated:

So what I am told is that those who are working on Naruto don’t have a clue in the world. It’s so bad that those working on the movie don’t even know who the villains of the character are, yet they’re developing the movie.

I’m told it is a similar situation to that of Dragonball Evolution where they’re just developing Naruto to take advantage of the built in audience but don’t know anything about the IP and don’t respect the source material or the fans.

Rumor has it that Naruto’s live-action project would be a lot like the infamously flop Dragonball Evolution, which was one of the first live-action adaptations. If the information turns out to be true, fans are going to be extremely disappointed, as they have been waiting for the movie for almost ten years and they still haven’t got any solid news.

Masashi Kishimoto is Not Involved With Naruto Live-Action

The disaster of Naruto’s live-action movie is inevitable, as Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of the series, has decided not to get involved with the project at all. The mangaka only signed off on the project and appreciated the involvement of Destin Daniel Cretton as the project of the series. Cretton previously worked as the director of Marvel’s Shang Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings.

In the history of anime live-action adaptations, the only series that saw the light of success was One Piece, and it was primarily because Eiichiro Oda decided to be a part of it and overlook everything that was going on. However, Kishimoto not engaging with Naruto’s live-action movie is only going to bring disappointment.

The movie has taken too long to get started, and this news and rumors about Kishimoto not being involved and the producers not knowing anything about the IP are only making matters worse. Lionsgate needs to step up their game if they want Naruto live-action to be as big as One Piece live-action.
