Xbox announced The Coalition’s Gears of War: E-Day at its Summer Showcase and fans are excited to go back at the very beginning of the Locust War. Players will play as young Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago.
After somewhat underwhelming experiences in Gears 4 and Gears 5, fans are expecting the game to take the franchise to its roots. But this is only possible if The Coalition is able to stay away from rookie mistakes made in these titles.
Gears of War: E-Day Needs to Avoid Mistakes of Last Two Titles
Gears of War fans have been discussing what they would like to see in the game and what would sit right, as the franchise is going back 14 years before the events of the original game with this title. Some things in the previous two installments didn’t sit quite right with the fans.
They want The Coalition to avoid making those mistakes and offer a better experience. One fan took to the game’s subreddit and said that the last two games messed up with the deaths, and they want to see “horrifically brutal deaths” in Gears of War: E-Day.
The developers went all out with brutality in the original trilogy. The deaths were horrifying and enemies were unforgiving, and this stood out for players. Fans now want it back in the game. The player said that Gears 4 does not have anything like it and Gears 5 tried but the “cartoonish” gore style ruined it.
Since everyone’s putting out their E-Day wishlists, here’s mine. (Contains character death spoilers)

Fans love the gameplay of the trilogy and the next two mainline titles did not do it justice. This could be fixed in the upcoming title and from what the developer has said about the game so far, it could be a franchise-defining experience.

The Coalition has already said that the Locust in the game will again be horrifying and formidable, and has labelled them as “living nightmares.” This could mean that the fights and deaths could be more brutal than what fans have seen in the previous titles.
Players have said that they want brutal and realistic deaths so that it doesn’t feel bland. Many added that the last two games feel like a “child-friendly version” of Gears of War and expect E-Day to fix that and bring the horror back to the franchise.
The Gears franchise is going back to the beginning and this could mean that it may have gameplay resembling to the original trilogy. This is exactly what fans want and the increased emphasis on horror and brutality would be a great addition to an already exciting game.
