Surprisingly, characters like Gabi and Falco were such inspirations taken from Arya Stark (Game Of Thrones) and Jesse Pinkman (Breaking Bad).

In a very shocking interview, Hajime Isayama shared what is perhaps one of the most unexpected influences for one of the series’ most complicated characters: Falco. Isayama has shared that the profile of Falco was inspired by no other than Jesse Pinkman of the acclaimed series Breaking Bad.

At that time I was really into TV shows like Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad. I got the inspiration for Gabi from Arya from Game of Thrones. And Breaking Bad’s Jesse Pinkman was the inspiration for Falco.

Isayama approaches character creation visually, followed by story-centric methods. He would typically sketch what a character is going to look like and then interlace the personality and characteristics with the story he has chosen. In doing so, he has succeeded in bringing forth quite a diverse array of characters, such as even Gabi, inspired by Arya Stark from Game of Thrones.

Beneath two very different worlds, however, lies an unexpected parallel between Breaking Bad‘s Jesse Pinkman and Attack on Titan‘s Falco Grice. From the outside, these characters seemed to be cynical and as hard as rock. In secret, though, they are tender and compassionate human beings.

Their stories cross the line from their trusting nature being used by characters like, Walter White and Eren Yeager, for their own purposes. Though Jesse and Falco both show a glimmer of light, hope, and an infusion of morality.

Just like Jesse finally had a way to redemption and closure through El Camino, similarly Falco rose up to his glory in the final part of Attack On Titan which created a significant change in the story’s climax. And it was also in a good way.

Isayama’s Current Interests In Other Western Shows Is Worth Taking A Note Of

That the creator of Attack on Titan, Hajime Isayama, is a fan of Western TV shows speaks to the diverse range of interests. He has watched Disney+, tried out Marvel for a bit, and is always looking for new content across all platforms. One of his recent favorites includes Barry, a black comedy-drama exploring the life of a hitman.

I do subscribe to a lot of TV streaming services.  I have been watching a lot of things on Disney+, but honestly, I started to get a little bit tired of Marvel. I think I watched the first episode of She-Hulk. I definitely do go around to every streaming service to watch what interests me. One of the series that I’ve been following recently is Barry. It would be too many if I start to name them all, I’m sorry.

Isayama’s wide-ranging and eccentric tastes can be noticed all over into his artistic works. Now that the Attack on Titan series has come to an end, readers are wondering how he will further express it with his probable new worlds and characters.
