Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball series has been one of the most iconic anime and manga titles. It has taught its viewers the relentless pursuit of achieving the ultimate version of themselves, and who else would showcase this notion than the two protagonists of the popular series?

Kakarot and Vegeta, the two Saiyan warriors, have time and again showcased this notion as they broke past their limitations to achieve a higher power. In the process, Toriyama-Sensei introduced several iconic things in the show, like the Senzu Beans, the Dragon Radar, the time machine, and many more.

However, the greatest of them all would be the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, where time passed significantly slower than on Earth. The importance of the room was shown in the Cell Saga, where it allowed the Saiyans to train for the Cell Games. Interestingly, it turns out the room can be made in real life and a physicist proves it.

Physicist Confirms The Greatest Invention in Dragon Ball Can Be Made in Real Life

In Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball series, the introduction of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber was a game-changer. The pocket-dimension room was great for training because, in one hour, a person gets one year to train.

Hence, this room played a significant role in unlocking Gohan’s Super Saiyan 2 form, which allowed him to defeat Cell. Well, this fictional room can now be created in real life, and Professor Nobuyoshi Ohta confirms this idea as he explains how this idea can be brought to life.

On the official website of Dragon Ball, Ohta-Sensei explains that the gravitational force plays a crucial role in the growth of a baby. He said,

Let’s compare a space station to Earth. We know that time flows more slowly on Earth where there is stronger gravity, right? So, similarly, if we were to compare a baby born where there is stronger gravity to a baby born where there is weaker gravity, they would grow at different speeds.

Later, in the interview, while talking about Black holes and gravitational pull, he explained how it is possible to create the Room of Spirit and Time.

To put it simply, Professor Ohta stated that if they managed to create a place with two different gravitational pulls, that would lead to time dilation, which could possibly be one of the greatest inventions of the series. He continued,

If you want to create a time difference of a year, then assuming we’re talking about on Earth, you would need an enormous planetary body with the mass of one billion Earths. But black holes don’t need to be quite that massive. Time slows down as you get closer and closer to an event horizon.

You don’t want a black hole that’s too small either, though. This is because for smaller black holes, even if you got close to the event horizon, the strength of the gravity would increase.

The physicist concluded that theoretically, on paper, this room could be created. At the same time, pulling off something so astonishing would be difficult.

The largest black hole discovered in the universe thus far has the mass of about 10 billion suns. But humans creating a black hole of that size, while theoretically possible, seems like it’d be difficult to actually pull off.

Despite stating that pulling off an invention like this is possible on paper, one does not know if it could be made in real life unless one tries it.

After all, Dr. Oppenheimer mentioned, “Theory will only take you so far.” As a result, implementing this concept would make fans very happy.

Further Theory Reinforces The Possibility of The Hyperbolic Time Chamber

As fans would remember, Son-Goku once mentioned that the dimension inside the room is as big as the Earth. In the same interview, the professor explained that this is possible because they “just warp to another place the moment they open the door.” This piqued the curiosity of the interviewer, which made them question if warping is possible in real life.

Again, theoretically, it is achievable but it must meet one crucial condition: there must be a world above the one we live in. To give a clearer picture, he drew a simple diagram to explain the idea. He said,

Let’s use an example of two dots on opposite ends of a sheet of paper. Normally, to get from one point to the other, you’d move along the paper at a high speed. Warping would be creating a path by bending the paper and putting the two points together. However, you can’t just bend the paper and put the points together yourself.

To “fold” it, you’d need “extra dimensions” (a dimension above the dimensions we live in). For us, since we live in three dimensions, a world above the three dimensions is equivalent to an extra dimension. In order for this to work, you’d need to be able to access the world above the third dimension.

However, there’s only one limitation stopping them from creating a totally accurate room like the one shown in Dragon Ball. He said,

That’s right. The only difficulty here is that no research has found any proof of a world with more than three dimensions. Research is currently proceeding based on the thinking that if there is a dimension above the third, it must have some kind of effect on experiments currently being done on Earth.

With the scientific achievements that have taken place over the years, it will only be a matter of time before scientists create the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, creating Saiyan warriors of their own!
