However, a 2014 report by Radar Online reflected on their bond in an unexpected light. Mendes reportedly reached out to her ex-boyfriend with an unusual request: to look after her then-boyfriend Ryan Gosling’s dog.

A source told the outlet that Augusto was still handling some of her business affairs at the time, but her request seemingly shocked the latter. As she might have been concerned about the furry baby’s well-being, she asked her ex-beau to look after him but things were about to go off.

The report suggested that the filmmaker had no idea that the dog belonged to The Notebook actor. The source added,

The whole ordeal reportedly became more humiliating when he realized that “Ryan’s dog is also named George!” The report also mentioned that Augusto was desperate to keep his job with the actress, which was why he kept quiet about the duties. However, he politely confronted the actress stating that he won’t take care of ‘the other George’ again.

She reflected on her decision, telling PEOPLE,

I was older and I knew that my kids are going to be little once, and whatever I do or don’t do right now is going to affect them the rest of their life. Your career comes and goes but kids, yeah, that was easy for me. They’re just formative years. I wanted to be there for all of it.
