Helldivers 2 and Arrowhead Game Studios are currently navigating a period in which the studio seems disconnected from what its players want in the game. Trying hard to ensure that it keeps its flagship title alive in the highly competitive live-service space, Arrowhead might want to look to its players for inspiration.

The latest change it made to the game is a great example of why the studio needs to pay attention to what its players say.

The Helldivers 2 Change That Nobody Asked For

In the aftermath of the latest Major Order tasking players with the shared goal of an impossible number of kills in the game, failing which introduced the Anti-Tank Mines, one Helldivers 2 player fondly recalls a stratagem from the first game that they believe would be a great addition to Helldivers 2.

Taking to Reddit to express how useful the stratagem in question would be if Arrowhead were to bring it to the game, CORBS1968 sparked a debate on its efficacy and how it could blend with the current game’s unique healing mechanics.

While that does not guarantee the stratagem a spot in any planned changes Arrowhead intends for the game, the studio would do well to listen to what its players have to say. It would certainly help if the studio were to add a touch of something familiar from the previous game to Helldivers 2 if it balances nostalgia with utility in the field for players to enjoy.

The Stratagem in question is the AD-289 Angel Mk3, which introduces a drone that can heal nearby Helldivers for a limited time before needing a recharge.

CORBS1968’s post below showcases how fondly he looks back at this admittedly excellent addition to the original game.

However, another player was quick to point out that while the Angel Mk3 was effective in the original game, Helldivers 2 might not be the best fit for its particular utility.

While the Angel could be repurposed to be an effective addition to most Helldivers 2 players’ arsenals, Arrowhead would have to work towards implementing it correctly before its release.

While Arrowhead would certainly want to retain its player base and keep its flagship title alive, it will need to evaluate the value in reworking existing mechanics in order to bring back a fan-favorite stratagem from the original game.

Whether or not the Angel Mk3 makes an appearance, Arrowhead could certainly use a win considering how Helldivers 2 players are desperate for new content in the game.

Can the studio turn things around and breathe new life into Helldivers 2? Let us know your thoughts – or ideas for the game – in the comments!
