Luffy’s grandfather, Monkey D. Garp, has recently grabbed every One Piece fan’s attention with the recent release of episode 1114 of the anime series. The episode has put a special focus on the Hero of the Navy and his attack that leveled half of the Hachinosu island, where Blackbeard has imprisoned his apprentice Koby.

Fans have always known Garp to be one of the legends in the One Piece universe, and to see it with their own eyes is a whole different feeling. Not only that, it has ignited the flames of the upcoming battle between Garp and the Blackbeard Pirates, especially his former student Aokiji Kuzan, who recently became the tenth commander of the Yonko crew.
However, there are still some critics who believe that Toei Animation might have overkilled Garp’s attack, Galaxy Impact. This might have changed the aspects of the prominent attack from what they were originally shown in the manga by Eiichiro Oda.
Monkey D. Garp’s Galaxy Impact Explained
One Piece fans have always heard legends of Monkey D. Garp’s strength that rivaled that of the former Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. However, fans never got to see it firsthand until Toei Animation released One Piece episode 1114. But even in the latest episode, only one of Garp’s attacks is shown, which is called Galaxy Impact.
Galaxy Impact is an infusion of Armament and Conqueror’s Haki being stored in Garp’s fist like a charge. When it reaches its maximum level, Garp releases it towards his enemies as shockwaves that cause destruction of the worst kind. Not only that, this attack is capable of disrupting an entire island, as seen in the episode.

As of yet, Garp has only used this attack once in the manga and the anime series, which proves that it most likely takes a toll on the body of the user. Plus, Garp is no longer in his prime, which also plays a big factor in the destruction caused by the impact of the attack.
Toei Animation Might Have Gone Overboard with Garp’s Galaxy Impact
According to @geetiyo on Instagram, the portrayal of Garp’s Galaxy Impact is entirely different in the One Piece manga and the anime. In the manga, Eiichiro Oda has gone out of his way to prove that Garp’s terrifying attack is actually a shockwave created from the fusion of Conqueror’s Haki and Armament Haki.

However, the Galaxy Impact shown by Toei Animation in One Piece anime episode 1114 makes it look like an explosion.

The attack feels like a nuclear bomb that has been dropped on Hachinosu Island, causing death and destruction of an unmeasurable amount. Thus, in a way, it undermines Garp’s extraordinary Haki abilities that put him against Gol D. Roger.
Irrespective of that, Toei Animation is going out of its way to perfectly adapt the One Piece narrative and give the series the kind of animation it deserves. The upcoming One Piece episodes are going to be even more thrilling as they feature events that are even bigger than Garp’s attack on Hachinosu Island.
