It has been a while since Deadpool & Wolverine was dropped in theatres and now, the entire world cannot stop talking about it. Whether it’s the story, Deadpool’s unhinged jokes, or the countless jaw-dropping cameos, including that of Channing Tatum’s, the film established itself as a one-of-a-kind movie-going experience. Talking about cameos, fans walked out of the theatre particularly happy about Channing Tatum finally making it into the Marvel universe as Gambit.

It would’ve been practically impossible to understand Channing Tatum’s words without subtitles thanks to his Cajun accent. In fact, the audience was doubling over with laughter anytime Gambit opened his mouth. However, the accent made it quite difficult for his co-star Dafne Keen to keep a straight face while filming her scenes as X-23 so much so that she had to tell Channing Tatum to shut up.
Dafne Keen Talks about Channing Tatum’s Cajun Accent

Channing Tatum’s Gambit was one of the most unexpected surprises to come out of Deadpool & Wolverine given his history of bad luck with the character. In the film, he was a part of the resistance group which comprised of Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Wesley Snipes’ Blade, and of course, Dafne Keen’s X-23. Needless to say, Keen and Tatum had to spend a ton of time filming together.
Gambit’s one-liners aided by his heavy Cajun accent made it impossible for Keen to focus on her work. During her appearance on ComicBook’s Phase Zero podcast, Keen stated that since she was going for a serious and broody personality for her character, Tatum’s accent made it difficult for her to keep a straight face.
Keen banned Tatum from saying his lines during her shot and even went as far as to tell her co-star to just “shut up.”
The Logan actress stated,
I had to tell him that, on my shot, he couldn’t say his lines. I kept breaking character because I was doing my brooding Wolverine vibe. I was like, ‘Yeah, let’s f-cking go. And then he’d be like, [imitates Tatum] ‘I was laying my nut in my buttery…’ ‘No, shut up. I need to do my job over here. You’re making it so hard.’
While Keen gave credit where credit’s due, she added that since Tatum’s hilarious one-liners had her breaking character left and right, fans could probably see it happen somewhere in the film as well.
But he’s so good. Even the formation when he’s like, ‘I’m about to make a name for myself.’ I was like, ‘No.’ Again, I’m calm and collected and this guy is just like yapping in my ear. He’s also, he’s right in front of me and it’s a full frontal shot. You can probably see it somewhere, [me] dying.
Honestly, we’d pay to watch a bloopers reel of Keen and Tatum trying to get through their scene togetherl.

Ask anyone who went to watch Deadpool & Wolverine in theatre and they’ll tell you how the audience was rolling anytime Tatum’s Gambit opened his mouth to speak.
His one-liners, especially the one where he says “Woo, I’m about to make a name for myself here” had fans dying with laughter which helped make the film a ten-on-ten experience.

Since this was just a cameo, we didn’t get to see Tatum’s Gambit as much as we would have liked to. Here’s hoping that this wasn’t the end of his run in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and that he’d be back for more; a solo film, hopefully.
