Spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a huge amalgamation of multiverses, giving way to countless possibilities. This element of the superhero franchise enables us to piece together speculative theories, adding to the rich tapestry of the superhero lore and making way for intriguing possibilities. And so one such theory is that Wesley Snipes’ Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine isn’t from the original trilogy.

As per this speculation, the character hails from an alternate timeline, which emerged due to one deleted scene from the first Blade movie from 1998, featuring one of the worst superheroes from Sony’s Marvel Universe: Morbius.

Wesley Snipes’ Blade Might Be From Alternate Timeline in Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine is full of brilliant cameos and shocking appearances, but none of them are as shocking as having Wesley Snipes reprise his iconic Marvel role from decades ago. Starring as the formidable vampire slayer called Blade, Snipe returned for a short yet impactful cameo in the film, making fans nostalgic.

‘There’s only been one Blade. There will only ever be one Blade,’ declares Snipes as he makes his appearance in the film, apparently hinting that he is playing the same character from the iconic Blade trilogy. However, there is also a possibility that Snipes might not be from the original trilogy, but a variant from another timeline.

This is plausible when we consider the deleted ending scene from the first Blade film (see YouTube), which showed a brief appearance of one of Sony’s most hated superheroes: Morbius. In the deleted scene, when Karen and Blade are talking on the rooftop about curing the vampire hunter, a figure in the distance is watching them. This figure is none other than Morbius, who was originally slated to be the main villain of Blade’s sequel (via Blade DVD Commentary).

This deleted scene, thus, can set up an alternate universe where Blade ends up killing his maker aka Morbius. Morbius’ death triggers the timeline to break (for he is poised as the anchor of that timeline) leading to the TVA to intervene and send this reality’s Blade to the void.

While this is just speculation after all, there is a possibility that this event might have happened given the multiversal nature of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Wesley Snipes Didn’t Believe He Would be Able to Reprise Blade After 2 Decades

Wesley Snipes has broken two world records with his Deadpool & Wolverine cameo- having the longest interval between character appearances in Marvel films and having the longest career record of playing a Marvel character in live-action (via THR). An extraordinary record to hold, Wesley Snipes cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine made up for one of the most memorable moments in the film.

Despite the many rumors of Snipes and Ryan Reynolds having a tumultuous relationship, the actor’s cameo only became possible thanks to Reynolds (see Variety). However, before Reynolds could have contacted his former Blade: Trinity co-star, Snipes did not believe he could return as Blade again. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Snipes remarked,

I did not think it was possible. I didn’t think we would be able to pull it off…. it didn’t make sense to me, but [when] you get a call from Ryan Reynolds out of the blue after 20 years, you go, ‘Okay, I got to take this call. Let’s see what this is about.’ He told me the idea…They said ‘yes’ and ‘it’s a go.’ ‘If you’re in, we’re in.’ Here we are.

Well, fortunately, Snipes was in luck, for just like his Marvel character Deadpool, Reynolds, too, is best known for making the impossible possible. Without any delay, Snipes jumped on the Marvel wagon and gave us an incredible and unforgettable experience.

And whether he was from the original trilogy or not, having Wesley Snipes star as Blade again was nothing less than a historic moment for Marvel fans.
