According to Reynolds, the post-credits scene would’ve blown the budget of the film out of proportion if he wasn’t wearing a mask. Evans’ hilarious rant in the scene made Reynolds giggle like an idiot, to the point where he could’ve possibly ruined the take. Interestingly, the film was in no position to afford multiple takes.

Chris Evans played one of the returning Fox characters in Deadpool & Wolverine, playing Johnny Storm. He met his untimely death at the hands of Cassandra Nova just minutes into his surprise appearance in the film. However, in a fourth-wall-breaking post-credits scene, Evans appears again to clear up one thing about his character.

The scene allowed the Ghosted actor to use the dirtiest cuss words in a Disney/Marvel film. Ryan Reynolds opened up about this hilarious scene in an interview with Collider. The Green Lantern alum shared that the whole Deadpool team was grateful that Evans came on board for two days and nailed the scene.

However, Reynolds and director Shawn Levy were in panic mode during the whole Chris Evans experience. He shared that the film was shot in natural environments and they only got seven hours of daylight due to a delay in filming as a result of the Hollywood strikes. Reynolds added that everyone had to stay on set all the time and retakes were not a luxury they could afford.

He shared that he offered cue cards for Evans who had to deliver the rant in rapid-fire speed. However, The Avengers actor went on to perform the lines to perfection and it was Reynolds who found it difficult to keep things together. He shared that he could’ve ruined the take with his giggling, but his mask covered his face during this scene. Reynolds shared with Collider:

Chris came and I was like, ‘Hey man, do you want cue cards? I know this is like rapid fire.’ He was like, ‘I’m not a rookie.’ He came in and murdered it. It’s the only time in the movie I am f**king up a take laughing, except I’m thinking, ‘God! I have a mask on.’ I was deathly quiet about it. But I was giggling like an idiot under the mask as he delivered that rant. I would have wrecked everything if I weren’t wearing that mask.

Reynolds earlier thanked Evans on his Instagram story, sharing that it was the “greatest show” on earth. He added that it was like seeing “an old friend back from the dead”. Evans had earlier worked with Reynolds and Levy in their previous film together, Free Guy.

Chris Evans Did The Role Mainly For Ryan Reynolds

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Chris Evans opened up about his Johnny Storm role in Deadpool & Wolverine. He shared that Reynolds’ jokes make anything work, which made his reprisal of Johnny almost an instant decision. He shared that the humor made him feel safe to revisit the character. He shared:

I just had to fly in real quick, do a couple days of filming, and fly out. For me, it was pretty easy. I was so excited. He makes the joke before the audience gets a chance to make the joke, so if you’re going to revisit a character and you have to find a way to make it work, Ryan’s humor makes just about everything work, so you feel an automatic sense of safety.

Reynolds also credited Shawn Levy with running the film smoothly, especially during challenging situations like Evans’ appearance. He shared that Levy had a handle on the situation like a “military General” who sounded like a “Dutch impressionist”.
