The new film Borderlands is based on the popular series of video games by Gearbox Software. It features several characters from the games, including Vault Hunters Lilith (Cate Blanchett) and Roland (Kevin Hart), who take the form of a bounty hunter and a rogue soldier in the film, robot Claptrap (voiced by Jack Black), demolitions expert Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), “Psycho” Krieg (Florian Munteanu), and archaeologist Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis).
Although the film features several characters from the game franchise, it tells an original story. In the opening scene, Roland rescues Tiny Tina from a prison cell, causing Tiny Tina’s father, Atlas (Edgar Ramírez), to hire Lilith to rescue her. Of course, over time, Lilith begins to uncover the conspiracy that is afoot, realizing that Atlas may not be who she thought he was. Along the way, they join forces with several allies, including Claptrap, Kreig, and Tannis, resulting in an intergalactic adventure of epic proportions.

Borderlands ending explained
After Lilith, Roland, Tiny Tina, Krieg, and Tannis find the final key to the vault, they are split up. Tannis and Tiny Tina find the site of the vault, only to discover that Tiny Tina is not the “Daughter of Promethea,” who is by prophecy supposed to unlock the vault. Tiny Tina’s father, Atlas, arrives and demands that she open the vault. Roland tries to save the day, but he is powerless against Atlas’s defenses.
Eventually, Lilith swoops in, having discovered that she is actually the Daughter of Promethea. After negotiating the release of her friends in exchange for opening the vault, she takes the key and opens the vault, taking the form of the Firehawk. A battle ensues, and she, Tiny Tina, and Atlas end up in the vault.
Atlas threatens to kill Tiny Tina if Lilith does not help him harness the power of her people’s technology. However, she instead uses her powers of teleportation to escape with Tiny Tina, leaving Atlas trapped in the vault with the creature there to protect it. The creature drags Atlas off-screen — presumably to his death.
Back in the world, everyone celebrates their newfound freedom as the corrupt Atlas has been ousted. Tiny Tina asks Lilith to show off her powers, and Lilith obliges. She sprouts her wings of fire and flies into the distance, exploding in a fireworks-like display of the Firehawk symbol.
Does Borderlands have a post-credits scene?
Borderlands has one mid-credits scene. There are no additional post-credits scenes.
Borderlands post-credits scene explained
The Borderlands post-credits scene is not a typical stinger, teasing the potential for a future installment. Instead, it is a one-off gag involving the robot character Claptrap.
After the end title credits sequence, we see Claptrap on screen one more time, dancing and singing as he did earlier in the film. As the credits scroll begins to roll upward, Claptrap begins to be pushed off the screen. He breaks the fourth wall, asking not to be taken off, saying it’s the “Easter Egg” and that he’s just giving the people what they want.
It’s a tongue-in-cheek cap to an action-comedy film that attempts to woo its audience with irreverent humor.
Is it worth staying for the Borderlands post-credits scene?
Although the Borderlands post-credits scene offers one last funny gag with Jack Black’s Claptrap, it is not necessary to stay to see this scene. It will have no impact on potential future installments of the Borderlands franchise.
