Genndy Tartakovsky’s Fixed gets the Coyote vs Acme treatment at Warner Bros. after the studio decided not to release it. With the relaunch of Warner Bros. Animation, the studio was supposed to offer a global platform for animated films. However, Fixed is the latest in the list of animated films passed on by the studio.

WB earlier abandoned the Scoob! prequel, Scoob Holiday Haunt!, and Coyote vs. Acme. They also passed on Bruce Timm’s Batman: Caped Crusader, which luckily found a platform in Prime Video. Some of the live-action films also got the same treatment, like Brendan Fraser’s Batgirl, which was a completed project.
Genndy Tartakovsky’s Fixed Becomes The Latest Project To Be Abandoned By Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. has relieved itself from distributing Genndy Tartakovsky‘s adult animated film Fixed (via Puck News). The studio has returned the film to its producers Sony Pictures Animation (SPA), who will look for a new distributor or streaming platform for the film. The film is produced and directed by Tartakovsky and stars Adam DeVine, Idris Elba, Fred Armisen, and Kathryn Hahn.
The simple story follows Bull the bloodhound, who discovers that he will be neutered the next morning. Tartakovsky was roped in for two animated movies by Sony including this project and Black Knight. Fans are furious at Warner Bros. for abandoning another film after earlier controversies involving Brendan Fraser‘s Batgirl and John Cena‘s Coyote vs Acme.
It will be difficult for SPA to find a new distributor, especially after WB’s public cancellation of the film. After WBD canceled Coyote vs Acme for a tax write-off, a public uproar forced the studio to put it up for sale to another buyer. However, the cancelation was a bad mark on the film and it remained abandoned. Sadly, Fixed is also facing a similar situation.
Fans shared their resentment of the studio for ruining a good movie, especially from a legend like Tartakovsky. Some fans wondered how long the studio was going to keep doing this, while others expressed concern over the current studio execs’ bad decisions. Some of the fan reactions read:
I truly hate WB at this point.

It’s that bad that all studio executives are rejecting the project

At least Sony will either release it themselves or look for someone, I don't think they dare to axe a Genndy film

This is a good move.

WB wouldn't have made the money on this that they think they would
Gendy = Quality

Dafuq is wrong with WBD?
The production of Fixed began in July 2022 and was completed in September 2023. Tartakovsky made sure that his film stood out among the other R-rated animated films with character-focused humor. According to Animation Magazine, it was the first hand-drawn film to be produced by SPA.
Warner Bros. Has Been On The Firing Line Ever Since Batgirl Cancelation

While fans were not exactly thrilled to see a Batgirl project, there was no doubt that they felt bad for the acting talents including Leslie Grace, J.K. Simmons, Brendan Fraser, and Michael Keaton go to waste. The completed film fell victim to the cost-cutting measures and became one of the most expensive canceled projects.
Despite its move from a theatrical release to a Max Original, WB announced that they couldn’t afford to release it on the streamer either. The news came as a shock to the young Belgian directors of the film, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. According to Deadline, DC co-CEO Peter Safran later stated that Batgirl was unreleasable in theaters.
WB went on to cancel several planned projects, but their abandonment of finished projects still hits the fanbase differently. They hope for a better outcome for Genndy Tartakovsky’s project.
