Despite being one of the most acclaimed games last year, with critics almost unanimously awarding it the Game of the Year title, Alan Wake 2 did not achieve the expected sales. Many fans believe that the game’s poor sales are due to its exclusivity on the Epic Games Store and its absence from Steam, the most popular platform for PC games. It has been known for numerous months that this game did not reach the desired sales figures.

Facing off against Baldur’s Gate 3 for the Game of the Year award, Alan Wake 2 managed to impress critics with one of the most solid games in recent years.

This title offered a unique meta-narrative, turning the player’s world upside down while building the very story the game’s protagonist-author was creating. This is something only Remedy can achieve with its incredible talent for storytelling, having proven time and again that it can surpass expectations.

Despite critical acclaim, this was not enough to capture the attention of the broader gaming community, and the game is considered a sales failure—or at least it did not meet the expectations of investors and the studio.

The development team is now actively working on the Max Payne remake. However, this is not the only project that is quite advanced in its development; according to reports, the Control sequel is already in a playable state.

Within these reports and the various reactions on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), users have taken the opportunity to express their opinions on why Alan Wake 2 was a sales failure.

Many of these users have pointed out that one of the main reasons was the game’s exclusive release on the Epic Games Store rather than on Steam, which limited the number of PC sales. Despite this potential sales limitation, the studio still has very ambitious plans for its upcoming games.

The studio already confirmed its various projects some time ago, and in addition to working on these two or three highly important ones, there are more in development whose specific titles have not yet been confirmed.

Fans eagerly await the remakes of the two Max Payne games, which became cult classics in their respective eras and significantly boosted the studio’s career.

Given the current game production timelines, it’s likely that these remakes of popular action games will take some time to arrive. On the other hand, the Control sequel might be closer than players think.

Remedy’s reputation continues to grow with each new title they release, proving their limitless talent for creating stories and completely original gameplay. These projects hold enormous potential for the future.

I'm a big fan of movies and videogames in general. I really love Pokémon and Godzilla. One of my favorite games is The Last of Us, Part II. A compelling and well-written story is always welcome.
