While most elements of Dragon Age: Inquisition were praised, some gamers complained about the cities in the game. This time, BioWare has specifically focused on this but it was not the fans’ feedback that motivated the studios to take this step, it was one line of dialogue from Inquisition.

The game director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Corinne Busche, recently appeared for an interview with Edge Magazine and explained how they worked on the city of Minrathous in Tevinter Imperium. When your Dragon Age: Inquisition companion Dorian joins you in Orlais, in one of the biggest cities in Thedas, he mentions that it’s quaint and cute compared to Minrathous. That one bit of dialogue was our guiding principle on how to realise this city.

In the game, Dorian Pavus, who is from Minrathous, compared Val Royeaux to Minrathous, claiming that it would put the southern cities in perspective.

Artist Matt Rhodes added that it’s difficult to compete with players’ imagination but they’ve still given their best to create the open world of The Veilguard.

The Dragon Age video game franchise was kicked off with 2009’s Dragon Age: Origins. The second game, Dragon Age II, was released in 2011, and finally, Dragon Age: Inquisition was released in 2014. Various spin-offs were also created such as Dragon Age: The Last Court, Heroes of Dragon Age, and Dragon Age Legends.

The fourth game in the main series, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, has been in development since 2015 but was slowed down due to delays, which primarily stemmed from changes in design and staff issues within BioWare.

Set 10 years after the events of Inquisition, The Veilguard will take players to the Tevinter Imperium region of the game’s world setting, Thedas. Fans got to see a 20-minute gameplay snippet of the game during Summer Game Fest and it’s safe to say that the expectations are quite high.

The game doesn’t have an official release date, but there are speculations that the game will be released for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S in the fall of 2024.
