The world of The Lion King is expanding with the upcoming prequel to the 2019 photorealistic adaptation of the beloved animated feature. The original film is considered a Disney classic, becoming a landmark film in the studio’s history. The 2019 adaptation, while successful, did not receive the same level of love as the original as many did not like the photorealistic depiction of their beloved characters and found it jarring when they emoted.

But the soul of the story remained intact with Scar’s betrayal and Simba taking revenge for Mufasa’s death. Academy Award-winning director Barry Jenkins is soon coming up with a prequel to the 2019 film and a new trailer for Mufasa: The Lion King has been released following the D23 presentation recently (via YouTube).
