The long-awaited sequel, Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture, of the much-adored anime series, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, had been the only thing fans are going crazy about lately. Even with the masterpiece ending of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2, it still had some core problems with its characters.

That is why this sequel was supposed to redefine those aspects, with most people initially complimenting on its engaging storyline and well-developed characters. But surprisingly, the latest installment of the anime has yet again struck on exactly the same pitfalls that scarred the fans in the first place.

Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture Was Shaping Up to Be a Great Sequel Until It Wasn’t

Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture held within itself all the ingredients to make a superb sequel. It expanded well upon the premises brought forth by its predecessor. Each episode was extremely well-woven amongst the intricate plot threads, which had the viewer looking forward to what would come out of it. The series had slowly started moving away from the shadow of the iconic protagonist, Lelouch, into a new path that was authentic and very engaging.

One of the most striking things about Rozé of the Recapture was how deeply realized the female characters were, as compared to Lelouch of the Rebellion. For once, it seemed like one could get into some really complex, fleshed-out women in the series, but again, this pace wasn’t sustained.

Time and time again, it has fallen into the same traps. Now, this makes fans wonder- what could have been if this series were to continue in the path it started, with real character development and plot progression?

Unnecessary Fan-service Ruined The Show For Some its Fans

The outrageous fan-service has wedged its way into this sequel, not only sinking the narrative further but also reducing characters to mere objects of s*xual desire. It disrupted some of the engrossing plots with moments that felt forced and exploitative. Its attempt at exciting the audience had fallen absolutely flat, and instead enraged and disappointed fans who were getting way too invested in the meaningful parts of the series.

Probably the worst of all these mistakes is when characters got strung up in a manner that cannot be described as anything other than s*xually suggestive. This moment comes right out of left field and leaves so many fans scratching their heads, wondering why such a terrible creative choice was made.

It has been jarring to see the thoughtful character development of the show contrast so vividly with its new reliance on salacious content, leaving fans mourning the loss of what could be a very promising series.
