Chris Columbus hails Robin Williams’ improv in Mrs. Doubtfire
Robin Williams might’ve missed the opportunity to be in a Harry Potter movie, but he did get to work with Chris Columbus in one of the most memorable films of his life, Mrs. Doubtfire.
In an interview with Business Insider, Columbus recalled,
He was in his prime at that point in his life and it was like divine inspiration. Before getting involved, I went to a screening of “Good Morning, Vietnam.” I was always a fan of Robin Williams’ stand-up, but I was blown away by his performance in that film. It was one of the great performances I’d ever seen at that time. I made a vow to myself that I would someday work with him.
Mrs. Doubtfire was one of the highest-earning movies of its time, being second to only Jurassic Park in 1993. The dramedy remains one of the best cult classic movies of Williams to date.
