In the history of video game collaborations, few have been as diverse and massive as Fortnite Battle Royale. Ever since its launch in 2017, the popular online game has featured several characters from different universes.
The beauty of transmedia narrative isn’t lost on Epic Games, and Marvel has been the epicenter for the upcoming season. On that note, there are still worthy additions to the game’s large roster of characters that haven’t made it to the game yet.
Even though these characters belong to different worlds, they share many personality traits and powers that are the right fit for Epic’s ever-evolving game.
Spider-Punk
One of Earth 138’s heroes includes Hobart Brown who fights crime with a punk-rock touch in his persona. Spider-Punk can be another addition to Fortnite’s existing collection of Spider-Man variants. After all, who doesn’t like another Spidey outfit?
His featured location on the map can perhaps include a usable guitar Mythic item like the players we witnessed during Metallica’s arrival in Fortnite. Additionally, Icon Radio can feature soundtracks from bands like Green Day and The Ramones that fit his personality.
What If…?’s Infinity Ultron in Fortnite
Fortnite’s island is known for “looping” its characters into an endless cycle of experiencing the same events over and over again. But what if there was a character who could break through this universe and change the very laws of nature?
What If…?’s Infinity Ultron is an indestructible force of nature that would stop at nothing to break through multiple universes. In Fortnite, this character could have weapons of Mythic rarity that potentially destroy squads in a matter of seconds. Knowing Epic Games, overpowered items are often part of the gameplay loop anyway.
Adam Warlock
One of the most powerful characters in Marvel, Adam Warlock is a genetically engineered being who has a strong sense of morality and feels at one with the universe. Given his understanding of basic human emotions, he could fit right in with the different characters on the Fortnite island.
Just like Thanos in the past, the game can make use of the Infinity Stones to make sure Adam Warlock gets to practice his powers in-game, and players have access to his physical and cosmic prowess.
In Marvel Rivals, Adam Warlock can heal allies and provide consistent support for his team. Maybe Epic can implement the same in its game as well.
Winter Soldier
Captain America’s presence in the game has always felt up to the mark, but his buddy Winter Soldier has been ignored by the developers. His marksmanship and hand-to-hand combat abilities would be a perfect match for the game’s mechanics.
In Fortnite, players can have specific quests that help out Bucky in his search for a secret device. This tool grants them Bucky’s enhanced strength and maybe even a weapon (an Exotic Assault Rifle?) that fits Winter Soldier’s playstyle.
A lot of the existing weapons already fit the character, now all we need is that touch of personality that lets the comic book character make his way into Epic’s universe.
Nightcrawler
The pointy-eared Nightcrawler is a beloved X-Men character. His ability often stands out from other mutants as he swiftly teleports between different places, and does so with others.
Given how Fortnite isn’t new to invisibility and teleportation, Nightcrawler’s powers can find a home in one of the game’s Mythic or Exotic items. Moreover, the existing X-Men outfits will synergize well with this one.
Keeping things fresh and interesting is the name of the game for Epic, and Marvel has made one of the largest contributions to the game’s design philosophy throughout different seasons. Hopefully, this will stay consistent.
