After numerous underperformers at the Box Office in the Multiverse saga, the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to have finally struck gold with Deadpool & Wolverine, a movie which has already crossed $1 billion globally, breaking an ominous streak for the MCU. But that isn’t the only reason that the project was a joy to behold for the fans. One of the reasons that fans loved seeing the film featuring the Merc with the Mouth was its cameos. And one Deadpool & Wolverine star is hopeful to turn that cameo into something more.
Deadpool & Wolverine brings back many characters
While fans were already hooked to Deadpool & Wolverine as it was going to bring back Wolverine AKA Hugh Jackman to the fold after Logan. The trick worked like a charm, with Marvel’s marketing campaign making the most of the camaraderie between The Prestige star and Ryan Reynolds.
What fans did not know was that they would get to witness the return of a sleuth of other characters. Imagine how they would have reacted to knowing that Wesley Snipes was all set to make his return as Blade. And that was just one. Dafne Keene’s X-23, Chris Evans’ Johnny Storm. All made their way back to the big screen.
Channing Tatum hopes to return as Gambit
One of the notable returnees was Channing Tatum. The X-Men’s Ultimate Ace first made his appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, plying his trade in the aid of Wolverine. Little did The Vow star know that he was about to go on a hiatus for quite a long time, only returning in 2024 to play the role of Remy LeBeau.
And he was thrilled to say the least.
Speaking to Variety on the premiere of Blink Twice, Tatum shared his views on the chances of getting a standalone movie, saying,
“I sure hope so. From your mouth to God’s ears. Write it into existence, my friend. Please.”
In an Instagram post, he would even go on to thank Ryan Reynolds for making this happen. He wrote,
“I thought I had lost Gambit forever. But he fought for me and Gambit. I will owe him probably forever. Cause I’m not sure how I could ever do something that would be equal to what this has meant to me.”
Now that the first step is done, he is hopeful for the chance to mark his grand return as Gambit.
Channing Tatum would even ‘kill kittens’ for Gambit movie
In conversation with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Magic Mike actor made bare his desire to star in a Gambit film of his own. And hearing how much he wants it might give anyone the shivers. He said,
“I would do lots of terrible things to make that happen. I would kill kittens.”
While that isn’t very ‘X-Men’ of him, the statement shows how much the 44-year-old wants the project to happen. He had to wait more than a decade to mark his return. No wonder he would resort to brute force if need be.

With X-23 and Cassandra Nova surviving Alioth’s attack, right before Wolverine and Deadpool made their way to Earth-10005, it is a reasonable assumption that even Gambit has survived. And while it yet remains to be seen how and when X-Men make their appearance, it still remains to be seen whether he manages to bag his own standalone movie.
