Sony bites again: J.C. Chandor returns again

Kraven the Hunter, the Spider-Man spin-off movie, is all set to be released on December 13. The movie showcases actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who plays the role of the comic villain. Fans are divided in their opinion of the movie’s fate after the disastrous turn-out Madame Web took.

But it seems Sony has a lot of faith in J.C. Chandor‘s filmmaking, since news of another script being signed is in the air. The Academy Award-nominated director has closed a deal with Sony Pictures to direct an untitled contemporary drama, which he has written himself.

According to Deadline’s report, the new film is supposed to resemble his previous successful works, like Margin Call, A Most Violent Year, and Triple Frontier. It seems like it falls under the category of a contemporary thriller and murder-investigation type of movie.

I’m extremely proud of the work we have all done together on Kraven, and when the movie finally gets its chance to be seen I think it’s gonna surprise the hell out of a lot of people.

In spite of his positive views, Fans are divided on their opinions about the upcoming movie. The trailer released on August 14 was the cause of their initial disappointment.

The hunt for authenticity: loss of comic’s Kraven

On August 14th, the trailer for the superhero/anti-hero movie was released, but the response was unexpected. Fans were left disappointed due to the many changes in the lead character’s personality and attitude.

Can we get a villain movie where they’re an actual villain? Could have just had him being the big game hunter and then seeing the reports of Spider-Man after No Way Home, going to NYC and hunting him.

Marvel fans on social media have been venting and mourning for the loss of the original comic Kraven. It seems like the biggest point of contention is the maker’s decision to change the villain into an anti-hero. Fans of the comic feel that they have softened up the otherwise cruel and vicious Spider-Man villain.

Kraven The Hunter, who’s supposed to be a hunter, is now a vicious vegan spy! Got powers because he got bitten by a radioactive lion! This is a new low even for Sony! What a waste of Aaron Taylor-Johnson & Ariana DeBose! That CGI & VFX on the blood is bad!

The Economic Times reported that, along with the deviation in his character, it seems fans also have low hopes for the technical aspects of the film. Since this is the director’s first Marvel movie, there is no mark of comparison available.

It looks like all they can do is wait and hope for the movie to surprise them. With Sony’s constant support and decision to work with the director again, some fans are thinking positively of the movie. Kraven the Hunter will be out in theatres on December 13.
