Eiichiro Oda’s creative genius is one that can put anything forward without a warning. One Piece has always been open to some of the most bizarre ideas and it brings about this reign of endless possibilities in a way that not even the best could accomplish. With the wild theories going about, there is no doubt that Oda’s unlimited imagination can in a way cater to the audience.
Imu’s identity is as ominous as the reality of the One Piece. None of the fans know what and who either of them could be and it is through theories that any morsel of information has been going around. Out of all the possibilities, one that is striking fans rather exceptionally is that of Imu being an alien.
Imu’s Immortality Went Beyond the Void Century
Some of the most iconic anime and manga have introduced the concept of aliens with Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball being the epitome of the genre. Even when the chances of an alien connection do not seem justified, there seems to be a way in which the path gets paved, case in point Naruto.
There’s a good chance that Imu was already an immortal king before the Void Century, who came long ago to Earth via Uranus. There are enough clues to assert that, but not enough to subtantiate it.
For a series like One Piece, Eiichiro Oda is very ambiguous and secretive about many things especially when it pertains to Imu. Who they are and what they are remain unanswered questions. In a theory on Quora, fans come to speculate that the chances of Imu being an alien are more than likely. Especially considering how he could have been alive and active much before the events of the Void Century took place.
One of the biggest indicators of the same could be because of the Ancient Weapons and how Uranus seemed to be in Imu’s control. Seeing how Pluton was built during the Void Century, the chances that it was built as a response to Imu and the Moon People becomes a possibility.
Eiichiro Oda Risks an Unoriginal Path
Little is known about Imu and what he is. His attack on Lulucia was something that was eerily similar to that of Enel’s Ark Maxim during the Skypiea arc. Moreover, it was never revealed as to how Enel got the idea to build such a destructive weapon. While it wasn’t properly explained, the idea that he took inspiration from Uranus isn’t far-fetched.
Dragon Ball did it, Naruto did it, if Oda did the same thing in One Piece, it would be unoriginal.
His immortality could have made him the arch-nemesis of the Sun God Nika who sat atop the throne even before Joyboy. Imu could have started an entire alliance as a reaction to Joyboy becoming the first pirate. However, if he was a King during the Void Century, it should also be thought that he must have a past that got him to the throne in the first place.
His immortality could come from the fact that he is from the moon and that even his original home had been there. How Akira Toriyama and Masashi Kishimoto have both introduced the concept of aliens in their world, were Oda to follow in their footsteps, Imu’s big reveal would lack great originality and depth.
