There was a time when movie tie-in video games were all the rage, and it was an opportunity for game developers to expand upon, which the film could not. Superhero games had first-hand experience with this venture, and fans developed an attachment to one Marvel hero.

Activision entrusted this year’s entry to Treyarch and Raven Software and the gaming community have already set high expectations. The combined efforts of two game developers encouraged some fans to expect some top-notch gameplay for Black Ops 6 and incorporate them into insanely difficult challenges to showcase the advancements of omnidirectional movements.

The developers took a little stroll down memory lane and came across an old cinematic trailer for a tie-in video game for X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It is a testament to their skill and how they made the most of the limited technology. These developers achieved the gritty nature of Logan in the Xbox 360 era, and it is one of the few games that deserves to be remastered.

Raven Software was ahead of its time and made the perfect superhero video game, even featuring Hugh Jackman as the titular hero as a bonus, which perfectly bridges the gap between live-action films and video game tie-ins.

The game featured ambitious real-time regeneration, and it was an authentic display of the character’s fast healing on the hardware of an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

The game developers have set a high bar, and Insomniac Games is preparing to present its response with an upcoming original game set within the same universe as Marvel’s Spider-Man.

The developers reaffirm that the project is making good progress, and early leaks suggest it could be a stepping stone for a much larger universe featuring other characters like the Avengers and X-Men.

Bloody and gritty anti-heroes can thrive in the video game industry. Anti-heroes accustomed to killing without remorse like Deadpool and Wolverine can pave the way for more game developers to explore the history of these characters and break new ground for modern superhero video games without relying on live service multiplayer norms or corporate greed where publishers want to milk these characters.

The surge of X-Men characters featured in recent films set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe will likely encourage fans to consume more content. Insomniac Games has yet to reveal an official release date which could be a perfect opportunity for Raven Software to fill the void.

Jackman’s portrayal created a sense of continuity and familiarity without stepping too far from the film while venturing into uncharted territory. Remasters are not simple cash grabs; they are meant to preserve classic gaming experiences.

The gaming community has nothing but praise for the game. It would make sense to port it to modern consoles to relive the experience in the best way possible.
