Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is on his way to bringing Tom Holland’s Spider-Man back to the screens soon, and fans couldn’t be happier about it all. After the previous runs of this fan-favorite friendly neighborhood superhero film series, more peak entertainment through the young vigilante and iconic supervillains is also awaited in the upcoming projects.

However, talking about the nemeses, it seems like the studios might face issues while securing some villains of the web-slinger from the comics. This comes after an alarming report from an insider about Sony and the MCU, which claims that Feige just may not be able to exercise full control over and include some of the most well-known villains from Peter Parker’s arc.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Saga May Not be Able to Include Some Major Villains

Spider-Man may have found his way back to the MCU after his long tenure in the care of Sony, but it seems like he won’t be allowed full freedom with his nemeses this time. And according to the latest reports from industry scooper Daniel Richtman, the reason behind this is Sony’s previous involvement with the saga.

As per what @cosmic_marvel recently shared on X, Richtman claims that there reportedly seem to be some restrictions on Marvel’s inclusion and usage of certain villains from the friendly neighborhood superhero’s character arc from the comics. This restriction seemingly forbids the studios from using some arch-enemies that Sony got to first.

While it hasn’t been specified which villains in particular are being referred to here as unusable by Kevin Feige‘s studios, this is some seriously concerning piece of news nonetheless. Of course, there are innumerable big baddies that the young superhero fights throughout his lifetime in the comics, but some of them hold a more special place in fans’ hearts than others.

This list includes some of the most iconic baddies of all time: Kraven the Hunter, Doctor Octopus, Sandman, Electro, Morbius, Green Goblin, Venom, and The Lizard, among others, all of whom have already been included in projects from Sony. Does this mean Feige won’t be able to include them in Tom Holland‘s superverse as the respective character?

Well, if these reports are indeed true, this just might be the case, and fans couldn’t be more disappointed and heartbroken about it all.

Fans React to Marvel Reportedly Losing Access to Major Spider-Man Villains

Since the web-slinger inevitably has some of the most interesting arch-nemeses drawn in his story arcs in the comics, it is no surprise that fans are utterly let down by the reports that the Spider-Man projects under Feige’s supervision may not have full access to some of the most notable villains of all time. Here’s how these fans are reacting to it on X:

Although all of these reports are incredibly unsettling and unfortunate if proven if fans’ deepest fears come true, all hope is yet to be lost. For one, Sony and Marvel could settle on an agreement that is both in their interest as well as in the fans’ interest, developing projects together that allow enough creative freedom to both parties to satisfy fans’ expectations.

But nothing can be said for sure, and fans might as well keep this flicker of hope in their hearts with a pinch of salt.

Meanwhile, you can stream all of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man films on Disney+ and Prime Video as of August 16, 2024.
