Gege Akutami has mentioned on multiple occasions that Jujutsu Kaisen was inspired by Tite Kubo’s Bleach. After getting inspired by one of the Big Three of anime, Jujutsu Kaisen went on to become one of the most popular modern-generation anime. Even though the mangaka met each other on different occasions, they officially sat down for an interview in 2021.

Jujutsu Kaisen Official Fanbook published the interview. There were several angles in their conversations, and both were respectful to each other. But Jujutsu Kaisen fans might have taken offense at one of Tite Kubo’s comments. He said none of Gege Akutami’s female characters are his type, so he did not choose a single one when asked about his favorite female character.

Tite Kubo Is Not Interested In Jujutsu Kaisen’s Female Characters

Tite Kubo’s art style is different from Gege Akutami’s. Due to different art styles, the characters and their characteristics also differ quite a bit. The art style is a projection of the mangaka’s tastes, and it is one of the reasons why each manga has a different essence. Akutami has done a great job at portraying his characters and making the female characters formidable instead of going by the typical Shonen guidebook. But it was not enough to pique Kubo’s interest in Jujutsu Kaisen’s females.

During an interview, Kubo said, “I hate to say this in front of the man himself, but none of the female characters in Jujutsu Kaisen are my type. They’re all formidable, aren’t they? When characters of the opposite sex get preferential treatment, they usually reflect the creator’s tastes, so that must be Akutami-sensei’s type.” Jujutsu Kaisen has several lady-like characters, including Nobara Kugisaki, Mai Zen’in, Maki Zen’in, etc.

On the other hand, Bleach has a different style of women. They are more in touch with their feminine side and do not resort to unnecessary action. The fandom might take offense, considering Kubo dissed their favorite anime’s female character. Gege Akutami also mentioned they did not even know whether the fans would have liked lady-like or seductive female characters. It might be one of the reasons why Tite Kubo thought them to be formidable.

Most Of Jujutsu Kaisen’s Female Characters Are Dead

When Tite Kubo and Gege Akutami’s interview took place, the female characters in Jujutsu Kaisen were still alive. But after that, those characters started to drop dead. Even though Nobara Kugisaki’s status is unknown, she is considered to be dead. Then Mai Zen’in died to help her twin sister unlock the Heavenly Restriction ability. During the Culling Games, Tsumiki and Yuki Tsukumo died at the hands of Ryomen Sukuna and Suguru Geto, respectively.

Jujutsu Kaisen is reaching its climax, with Yuji Itadori having the upper hand on Ryomen Sukuna. The King of Curses has gone on the back foot for the first time in centuries. Yuji had major power-ups throughout the battle and is quite close to saving Megumi Fushiguro. Chapter 266 is scheduled to release on August 18, 2024, and the leaked scans revealed that the fans are in for a surprise.

Jujutsu Kaisen can be streamed on Crunchyroll, and the manga is available on Viz Media as of August 16, 2024.
