The Big Bang Theory has been one of the biggest and the most popular projects of the Emmy-nominated actress Kaley Cuoco. Starring her in the role of the quirky neighbor of Sheldon and Leonard, the series not only became a household name but also one of the highest-paid TV actors in the industry.
However, things weren’t so straightforward for her when it came to landing the role of Penny in the sitcom. Cuoco auditioned three times for the role and was rejected twice. However, the actress didn’t back down and her persistence ultimately paid off as she landed the part in Chuck Lorre’s hit sitcom.
Kaley Cuoco Reflected on Perseverance and Career Turning Points
Talking about The Big Bang Theory and her role in the sitcom in an interview with TVLine, Kaley Cuoco shared one piece of advice drawing from her own experiences and career trajectory.
The actress emphasized the unexpected twists and turns that shaped her path to success, saying, “You just never know what’s going to happen.” Cuoco recalled how she auditioned for the role in the sitcom multiple times before ultimately landing the part.
I remember the third time I went back, I was thinking, “It’s obviously not right for me, I don’t know why they keep bringing me back!”
However, despite the initial setbacks, she highlighted the importance of constantly trying. “It’s about perseverance,” she said before adding, “I’m really glad I did go in that third time because obviously it changed my life.”
Kaley Cuoco also attributed her success to the advice of people around her and her own determination. The Big Bang Theory star recalled,
People [in my circle] were like, “Look, you want to work for Chuck Lorre. If you want to do comedy… You’ve got to get back in that room.” He was the reason that we went back.
Stressing the importance of perseverance and openness to unexpected opportunities, Cuoco advised the same to the aspiring actors, suggesting that the key is to keep pushing forward despite the challenges or doubts on the path to success.
Kaley Cuoco Recalled 8 Simple Rules Co-Star John Ritter’s Advice
In her conversation with TVLine, Kaley Cuoco also opened up about the advice she had received from the late actor John Ritter, with whom she shared the screen in the comedy show 8 Simple Rules.
Stating that he always advised her to never give the studio audience the same take twice, she described it as “the best advice I’ve gotten, or ever witnessed.” Cuoco further recalled how his approach kept the laughter fresh and engaging during filming.
John always just did that, and I was like, “How does he keep everyone laughing so hard?” On our show we do three takes, maybe four max, so you get a chance to do it four different ways, and it keeps everyone cracking up.
The actress has also highlighted the impact the late actor had on her during their time working on the show. “I spent a year and a half with him only, and the way he touched my life has far exceeded that one and a half year,” she told Access Hollywood.
Cuoco also acknowledged how Ritter’s advice has continued to influence her work, being an imparted piece of wisdom that she carried with her throughout her career.
