Suicide Squad Isekai’s season finale was the epitome of mixing magic with mayhem. DC’s attempt at a successful anime may deserve more credit but there was much else that could have been done with it. Moments that had been teased and foreshadowed seemed almost lackluster. At the same time, there came a way through which the story also felt fulfilling and fun. The ten-episode journey has finally come to an end with various ups and downs.

On one hand, having a studio like WIT should have given it the fame and backing it needed, on the other hand, the fluctuating animation quality came with even more problematic storytelling. Getting any Suicide Squad project to work is always an effort whether it is with the movies, the games, or the anime itself.

Suicide Squad Isekai’s Rise to Fame

One of the biggest complains I had with the previous episode was with regard to Harley and her magical gun. When the team has such an adept marksman at their disposal, why give someone else an upgraded gun instead? However, early on in the tenth episode, that problem gets fixed almost instantly. Cecil, who had been by their side for such a long time, puts himself in danger after using a grenade without properly being able to understand what it does. He passes down his magical armor to Deadshot who then discovers just how powerful it really is.

Nothing could have prepared me for the Suicide Squad to get anime girl transformations and I am all for it. The fusion of a magical world with their own twisted minds is the kind of stuff that would definitely capture the fans’ attention. When it was announced that a Suicide Squad anime was in the works, what I had expected was nothing of what was shown, both in a good and bad way. While my complains all pertain to the previous episodes, my praise focuses on the finale.

As the battle keeps going on, a lot of what had been demanded and almost expected finally started coming true. This included the anticipated utilization of similar looks by Fione and Harley. With a classic switcheroo, the Undead Queen was beheaded in an instant. Moreover, the Enchantress having such a strong power was used wisely so as to not overshadow the entire squad.

Each and every member of the Suicide Squad received a piece of Cecil’s Holy Armor that gave them all extraordinary powers and access to the world’s magic. The way this one move helps them transition into an anime-esque world may have caught everyone off guard but it was most definitely not unwelcome.

They all use their upgraded abilities to prove themselves, especially King Shark who had been feeling low and useless. However, his need to protect his friends helped him create a spot unlike any other. Despite their teamwork, it isn’t enough to defeat an undead army. While the Squad drifts towards the Undead Queen, the Enchantress singlehandedly takes charge of the army.

Fione too gets her time to shine, using not only magic but also her wits to be the one who beheads the Undead Queen once and for all. Moreover, she takes the throne, rightfully getting crowned as Queen after the world had seen constant famine and bloodshed.

The Harbinger of Chaos: The Joker

Throughout the series, Joker has played a secondary part, appearing often in Harley’s dreams and memories. The impact his mind had on the team had been almost constant. While the Squad settles after the war, they care little about their honors and rewards and seek only food. Rick Flag then takes up the task to contact Amanda Waller to update her of the situation. This is where things truly take a turn, establishing that this was only the first season of the series.

Katana had never been a part of either of the teams who went into the Isekai world. On the contrary, it was Joker who had been impersonating her as an attempt to humiliate and irk her for capturing Harley. His reason for betraying the Undead Queen had been simple, the Joker got bored. Her goals had been too rudimentary for his liking but as long as there was chaos, he would play her game.

The moment things got over, he picked up the crown for himself as Emperor Joker. It would almost make sense why the fight between Katana and Harley had been so captivating. While the Joker’s true intentions are unclear, he would bend every world backward if it meant that Harley would enjoy.

The second season could look into Harley growing away from Joker and her obsession with him, however, the only way this would be possible is if he somehow gets bored of her too. While the very situation seems unlikely at the moment, the best characteristic about the Joker is his unpredictable nature.

He could certainly take the front lines for the next season, whether it is by joining the squad or going against them, I would probably assume the latter. He is notorious as a villain and that could also make Harley turn against the Squad just as quickly.
