Although the actor had a rickety start in Hollywood, Wahlberg never backed down from a challenge. The actor is also a gym freak and was covered in tattoos at a certain point in life.

Mark Wahlberg Had To Do One of the Toughest Things For Hollywood

As mentioned earlier, Wahlberg’s back, front, and, arms were covered in various tattoos that the actor had gotten over the years. This meant that whenever there was a shirtless scene, Wahlberg’s tattoos had to be covered with makeup.

That process took quite an extra amount of time since it was supposed to look natural. However, the actor did what any dedicated actor would do, and got his tattoos removed.

In a recent interview with Jeff Goldblum on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Mark Wahlberg talked about how painful his relationship with tattoos was and how it was quite an experience for the Ted actor.

I got all the other tattoos removed. Terribly painful. They promise you that it’s very quick, couple of visits. It took me many years. I actually was trying to get them removed by the time I was gonna do The Fighter because everytime I did a movie if I had to take my shirt off, I had to cover it all with makeup. Agonizing experience.

He further continued,

So I was trying to get it done and it took me like 5 years to get them completely removed. And it’s like hot baking grease getting flicked on you over and over and over again.

Jeff Goldblum completed the talk by mentioning that some people would find that pleasurable. It was in 2010 when Wahlberg produced and starred in the film The Fighter and it became one of his most beloved films.

It seems that Wahlberg has quite a lot of stories from Hollywood where he has done some weird things over the years. One of them included him getting spray-tanned on a balcony!

When Mark Wahlberg Was Getting Spray Tanned!

It was the year 2013 when acclaimed director Michael Bay combined Dwayne Johnson, Mark Wahlberg, and Anthony Mackie for a movie titled Pain & Gain.

The movie featured the three of them as criminals and as such, Bay wanted Wahlberg to be completely tanned. Although there might not have been a need for such excessiveness, Wahlberg revealed that he had some tanning sessions.

These sessions weren’t ordinary, however, as Wahlberg used to get his tanning sessions on a balcony on the 17th floor! In an interview with Pulse Gamer, the actor revealed his side of the story.

I don’t do anything really weird, in respect to gym routines. But, the weirdest thing and the most uncomfortable thing I’ve done was for this movie, having to get a spray tan every week. I don’t like the sun, it’s not good for me, but Michael insisted I be as tan as possible.

He further continued,

So, he’d make me get a spray tan. I’d do it on my balcony of my hotel room which was on the 17th floor! You would think you’d be free from all the cameras and paparazzi, and there I was getting photographed in my underwear getting a spray tan. Not a good look.

Although Pain & Gain didn’t receive critical acclaim or heavy praise, the film remains as one of Michael Bay’s cult-classics. The film received a rating of 6.4/10 on IMDB and an average of 50% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Mark Wahlberg’s The Fighter and Pain & Gain can be streamed on Paramount+ in the U.S. as of 17th August 2024.
