Thanks to this factor, it ended up becoming a comforting project for many, bringing a couple of famous faces including Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, and Jack Black.
Law, who played the charming widower Graham Simpkins, recalled his time in the movie, reflecting on the unpredictable success that it gained over the years.
In an interview with RottenTomatoes TV to discuss his project, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew at D23’s event, he recounted his cult-classic film, stating,
We were talking about how, I mean, it’s kind of incredible, the following that it gets. You can’t plan for that. But the thing is, you know, I’ve made quite a lot of movies now, over 30 years, and you cannot work out or plan for a film that just keeps coming back and coming back.
He continued,
I wouldn’t necessarily have guessed it would have been that one, really. You never know. And then, you never know how it’s going to be received, and certainly not 20 years later.
Over the years, the 2006 film has transcended its initial box office success, gaining a cherished cult-classic status. The film’s exploration of love, heartbreak, and the journey for happiness resonated across generations, making it a perfect watch for holiday gatherings.
Jude Law is Open to Return in The Holiday Sequel
The Sherlock Holmes actor is more than ready to reprise his role for a sequel to the beloved 2006 romantic comedy. During an appearance at the New York City’s Tribeca Festival, the 51-year-old actor recently expressed his enthusiasm for the idea.
He told E! News that he “loves the idea” of revisiting his character, who has stolen many hearts by now.
Directed by Nancy Meyers, the movie follows the lives of two women, Iris (Winslet) and Amanda (Diaz), who, in a bid to escape their issues, swap homes and end up finding love in unexpected places.
Law’s character, Graham, was a widower, Iris’s brother and father of two young girls, whose blossoming romance with Amanda helped move the central plotlines forward.
The successful yet emotionally guarded Amanda initially saw Graham as a casual fling during her brief stay. However, fate had different plans as they developed a deep connection.
The actor humorously added on where his character might be today, joking that “Graham still has cardigans and glasses, and reads.” He added that he would “probably worried sick about the girls,” who would now be in their late twenties.
His speculation not only delighted fans but also fueled excitement surrounding the possibility of its sequel. The movie grossed around $250 million worldwide as per the Numbers.
