But who is Apocalypse, anyway? He’s basically the Thanos of the X-Men world. According to Marvel.com, he’s one of the first mutants on Earth and the most dangerous of all. With his immense powers, ancient knowledge, and advanced alien technology, the X-Men are undoubtedly destined for doom.
Apocalypse desires to subjugate the Earth in order to force evolution and create a race stronger than mutants, and because he has a serious loathing for the weak ones, he would not hesitate to commit unspeakable crimes, much like what happened in the 1995 comic book crossover storyline Age of Apocalypse.
The arrival of Apocalypse will be the beginning of the mutants’ strenuous resistance against the tyrannical villain. It also serves as a bad omen to Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman in the movies, because not only will he lose his hand during a battle, but he will also be transformed into a far more menacing figure.
In short, the rumored casting of Johnson as Apocalypse may confirm that the antagonist figure will soon debut in the MCU.
