Despite the content being intended as harmless, it didn’t sit well with many. In a 2009 interview with Allure, the star used the term while discussing her insecurities on the set of Gossip Girl. She reportedly said,
I feel like a tranny a lot of the time. I don’t know, I’m… large? They put me in six-inch heels, and I tower over every man, I’ve got this long hair and lots of clothes and makeup on. I just feel really big a lot of the time, and I’m surrounded by a lot of tiny people. I feel like a man sometimes.
However, it turns out that will not be the last time the actress will use that word. In a 2012 interview with Elle magazine (via The Cut), she was seen saying,
I hope to have a few girls one day. If not girls, they better be trannies. Because I have some amazing shoes and bags and stories that need to be appreciated.
Beyond this, the actress has reportedly used the term in several other old interviews that are now being recirculated. The resurfacing of these clips certainly doesn’t help, especially as she’s already tangled in a web of ongoing drama.
Another Blake Lively “Nightmare” Interview That Sparked Public Criticism Amid It Ends With Us Drama
This controversy directly follows the discussion that erupted when a journalist shared their “nightmare” interview with Blake Lively on YouTube amid the chaos surrounding It Ends With Us. To briefly summarise what is going on, people online have criticized Lively for her lighter-hearted approach to promoting the movie, which is an adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s 2016 novel about domestic violence and abuse.
It did not sit well with many, especially as she also pushed her new haircare line, Blake Brown. However, that was not all, she also promoted her beverage company Betty Buzz with themed cocktails like “Ryle You Wait,” named after the abusive character in the story, have further fueled the backlash.
Meanwhile, amidst all this chaos, a Norwegian journalist Kjersti Flaa shared a clip from a 2016 interview with the actress that left her “wanting to quit” her job. During the promotion of Lively’s film Café Society, directed by Woody Allen Flaa, congratulated Lively on her “little bump,” who announced her news of pregnancy just a while ago, at the time. However, Lively was then seen supposedly taking offense and responding sarcastically, saying, “Congrats on your little bump” to the interviewer.

Many also speculate that the recent resurfacing of potentially problematic old interviews of the actress, seems suspiciously well-timed, with Justin Baldoni hiring the same PR crisis team that aided Johnny Depp during his trial against Amber Heard. While these are just mere speculations and nothing more than that, the situation appears to be escalating with each passing day.
