According to Ymir, a high priest who oversees the cathedral of Manus Metyr, who gave his account of what is believed to be the major reason why the DLC was made possible within the lore of the game.

It was made possible because the Greater Will was off getting milk, leaving Marika behind to work with the fingers under Metyr’s instructions, which she should have been given by her parents.

By far the biggest revelation of the DLC. To think half the things that happened was because the Greater Will went to get milk.

Greater Will’s absence from the forefront gave a lot of time for many conflicts to arise, which made the DLC possible. The Erdtree was adorned with thorns in the game before, but slowly the power wore off as Erdtree blessings also began to wear off after the departure of the Greater Will.

Many gods and other creatures were left behind by Greater Will to fight for the abandoned land that took the shape of the Shadow of the Erdtree and gave Elden Ring a much-needed fresh lore and map extension.

The Shadow of the Erdtree is a creation of chance that took form after many things outside the control of anyone began synchronising in perfect harmony, causing destruction, which gave rise to the world as we know it now.

The DLC contributes not only to the campaign and map of the game but also extends the lore of the game even further by adding more depth to it.

The lore of Elden Ring revolves around the genre of cosmic horror, which includes an open world with tons of mystical creatures, gods and goddesses, and a diversified pool of spells, items, crafting, equipment, and builds.

The game is one of its kind and has proven to stand out among some of the similar games of the same genre. The DLC enriched the experience and increased the replayability of the game further.
