One of NetherRealm Studios’ decisions regarding Mortal Kombat 1 was to reboot the entire timeline after the events of the eleventh installment of the saga.

This brought back all sorts of well-known characters from the franchise, but with different origins and some twists that fans thoroughly enjoyed. Now, the studio has teased that they will release a story DLC with new playable characters.

Just as The Veilguard featured the return of Morrigan, seen in the latest trailer, this fighting game also showcased a beloved character from the community making their triumphant return.

It’s super cool that we get to see Harumi right in the game now, but I’m really hoping she that doesn’t die again. 😭

Harumi, from the Shirai Ryu clan, is once again back in action, and this time, players hope she doesn’t meet her usual fate and die on screen. This was noted by a fan on Reddit who highlighted this detail.

Upon seeing the trailer and this character seemingly on screen again, many users began commenting on the Reddit post, saying it’s all part of a plan by the villainous Quan Chi.

Many fans fear that a rival clan, such as the Lin Kuei, might kill this character, following his usual fate. She has rarely been a playable character in the title. Other fighters could probably appear in the DLC.

Thanks to the new timeline, there’s a lot of ground to cover with respect to other popular characters in this saga, and it seems the studio has a lot of future content planned.

Unfortunately, the studio and the entire WB Games company are in a strange situation, as they’re considering selling certain IPs to distance themselves from their own game development due to poor sales of other titles.

Mortal Kombat 1 received mostly positive reactions from fans despite the timeline reboot. Part of the community complained about certain aspects of the gameplay, but overall, everyone agreed on the story outcomes for certain characters.

Thanks to this reboot, there are still many characters yet to appear, as well as several main villains who will likely make their debuts differently.

I'm a big fan of movies and videogames in general. I really love Pokémon and Godzilla. One of my favorite games is The Last of Us, Part II. A compelling and well-written story is always welcome.
