Actress Sydney Sweeney is one of the most sought-after talents in Hollywood, thanks to some of her recent commercially successful movies. However, Sweeney faced a significant career setback with her foray into the superhero genre in the form of 2024’s ill-fated Madame Web.

Despite her previous experience as a Marvel character, Sweeney is reportedly in talks to appear in the upcoming Spider-Man 4, starring Tom Holland, in a brand new role. However, Sweeney’s rumored new MCU role means that one Star Wars actress might lose out on her aspiration of playing the same character, and here is everything you need to know about it.

Sydney Sweeney Rumored For Black Cat Role in Spider-Man 4 After Madame Web Failure

Sydney Sweeney appeared as the Julia Cornwall iteration of Spider-Woman in 2024’s Madame Web. The film is set in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe and does not have direct ties with the MCU. It received mostly negative reviews and bombed at the box office, becoming one of the few failures in Sweeney’s career.

Despite already playing a well-known character connected to Spider-Man, Sweeney is rumored to be in contention to play Black Cat in Spider-Man 4. The upcoming film is set to bring back Tom Holland as the titular web crawler, with Sweeney reportedly considered for the iconic cat burglar.

A fourth film in the commercially successful Holland-led Spider-Man films was revealed to be in development in February 2023. However, details regarding the forthcoming installment have been few and far in-between. If rumors are to be believed we could see Sweeney in the movie as Felicia Hardy / Black Cat, leading to some troubles for the web crawler.

Felicity Jones Might Miss Out on MCU Dream Amdist Sydney Sweeney’s Spider-Man 4 Rumors

The character of Felicia Hardy / Black Cat regularly appears alongside Spider-Man in the pages of Marvel Comics. However, on the film side of things, the character has received little recognition. While Felicity Jones appeared as Hardy in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, she never got to embrace the Black Cat persona.

I’d love to play her again. She’s a great character.

Jones made the above statement (via CinemaBlend), expressing a desire to reprise the role of Hardy in the MCU.

The actress is arguably best known for her role as Jyn Erso in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. However, her stint as Hardy is little known because the character never suited up as the more recognizable Black Cat. Therefore, Jones’ desire to reprise the role is understandable.

Despite interest from Jones, it does not seem like Marvel Studios is on board with the idea. If the rumors of Sweeney being offered the role of Black Cat are true, the MCU seems to be heading in a completely different direction. Nonetheless, since Jones’ TSAM 2 co-star Andrew Garfield returned as Spider-Man fairly recently, there could still be hope for her as well.
