The first few announcements at Gamescom 2024 included Borderlands 4. For a long time, there had been rumors about this new Gearbox franchise title, but this event marked its official reveal. 2K Games announced that in 2025 this title would be available for all current platforms.
The trailer didn’t show much beyond a cinematic, but everything suggests that it will be one of the most ambitious entries in the entire franchise. There are almost no details about the game’s protagonists.
Gearbox Confirms Borderlands 4 for 2025
Rumors of a new entry in this franchise, recently adapted into a film that turned out to be one of the worst movies of the year, have been circulating since the beginning of the year.
Nonetheless, Gearbox and 2K Games have full confidence in the franchise, which is why they officially announced Borderlands 4. Some older devs are even working on a new IP. The trailer was quite cryptic; besides being almost entirely a cinematic, it didn’t introduce any of the characters who will be the protagonists in this upcoming title.
The teaser only features the Phoenix logo, symbolizing Lilith and her immense power. The mask of one of the psychos, iconic characters in all the games of this franchise, is another detail that caught our attention.
Beyond the release date, which will be sometime next year, the game’s description only mentions that players will once again become vault hunters. The fandom is very happy with the announcement.
2K Games Continues to Bet on This Franchise
Despite the film adaptation of this saga being a failure, the video games have an enormous number of followers and fans since the first installment.
That’s why Borderlands 4 carries high expectations from the community, which hopes for a complete renewal of the mechanics. Clearly, it will once again be cooperative, with various character archetypes to choose from, and become the best vault hunter.
