The list of iconic characters that HBO’s Game of Thrones gave to its fans is long-winding and nostalgic. From Tyrion to his father Tywin Lannister, to the Khaleesi and Jon Snow. From Oberyn Martell to Cersei Lannister, there were simply a host of faces that became globally recognizable after the incredible success of Game of Thrones.

Regardless, Tywin Lannister, portrayed by the veteran Charles Dance, was not only a fan-favorite despite his loyalties lying against the protagonists of the show. He was the leader of one of the strongest houses in the seven kingdoms, the mastermind that pulled all the strings for his family, and a flaring temper whose brunt was born by everyone in his family, most notably Tyrion Lannister.

Now, one deleted scene from the series, which also features Julian Glover’s Master Pycelle, has led to fans expressing anguish over its deletion from the actual show.

Tywin Lannister was one of the biggest fan-favorites from the show, and arguably the most cunning of those in power in the Game of Thrones. Majorly responsible for his house staying in power for so long, Tywin was the ideal mastermind who would go to any lengths for his family, and while he committed his fair share of brutal, unquestionably evil acts, he still emerged as a bonafide fan favorite.

And while the reasons were many, including his sheer brutality to ensure the safety and the prosperity of the Lannisters, one particular scene that featured him in full glory never made it to the final cut.

The scene in question features a tense exchange between him and Master Pycelle, with the former fishing while exposing the former Grand Maester for his antics. Pycelle was removed as the Grand Maester by King Joffrey Baratheon in favor of Qyburn, which led to him asking Tywin for a favor and reinstating him.

However, in characteristic fashion, Tywin refused, explaining to Pycelle how his loyalty was not, like him, towards House Lannister. However, on Pycelle’s insistence, Tywin appoints him for kitchen duties instead of the King’s Council.

Fans were disappointed with the scene not making it to Game of Thrones

The particular scene was shown at the Comic-Con panel back in 2013, and while Pycelle feigned incompetence, Tywin single-handedly asked the former grand maester to quit feigning loyalty towards his house, and move on.

The scene not only showed the clever way in which Tywin could read people, but also hinted at the lengths he would go to in order to ensure a united House. After all, while the king and the acting hand had removed Pycelle from his post, Tywin had a dislike for Qyburn, which meant that he did not support the ousting.

Regardless, Tywin refused to go against the junior members of House Lannister, and instead stuck to his guns, once again coming up with a united front. Fans were quick to rue this deleted scene, with some claiming the following:

It’s a CRIME this scene was cut. Absolutely brilliant acting. Especially when crafty old Pycelle finally quits his act.

One thing I love about Tywin is that he never gives anyone his full attention, he’s always doing something while talking to people, such a subtle power play.

Tywin really is like a lion. Always staying on top of the food chain.

Scenes like this one, and the ones with Arya, show us who Tywin really is. And it shows just what a great actor Charles Dance is; he is very deserving of his fame.

You betrayed my sons trust. I really wish Tyrion could have heard him say that.

Needless to say, fans were disappointed and would have loved to see Tywin in all of his elements, if only for this one extra scene.
