My Hero Academia’s big announcement following the end of the original manga had fans hoping for the longest time it would be a sequel or some big project. Much to their dismay, it was a series of popularity polls. As underwhelming as it was, the results turned out to be an even bigger surprise. Ever since the manga first began, Deku had always appeared to be a rather unique character.

Some liked him while others simply couldn’t. Some saw him with hope while others did so with pity. The popularity of the protagonist was polarizing and many just didn’t find his appeal. That is not to say he wasn’t loved. Deku has his own big fan base with many dedicated followers who would defend him against trolls. However, one character could always overshadow him.

Bakugo Takes Another Win in My Hero Academia

Bakugo has always been one step ahead of Deku no matter what. The poll marked him as a much better character than the protagonist of My Hero Academia. Many even saw him as the perfect replacement for the main character while others found it hard to believe that he wasn’t already.

As the series came to an end, while it should be expected for the protagonist to get a better ending than the secondary characters, that wasn’t the case. Deku being the main character should have been offered more opportunities to rise in the way Bakugo did, and the result turned the main character into a shadow of the other. Overall, he just felt like a better-written character who was more fleshed out. He got the kind of growth that fans seemed to completely latch onto.

He went from a bully to a friend with the development that helped him become such a likable character. His popularity took over even Deku’s in an instant and as if that wasn’t enough, he just took another win under his name.

Bakugo’s Quirk Overshadows the One for All

The My Hero Academia World Hero Popularity Poll recently conducted a survey on the top three best Quirks in the series and the results were increasingly shocking. While there are many characters who may be picked as favorites, as a Quirk, One for All has always stood as superior to what others might have.

Bakugo may have an upper hand against most of what Deku has and holds in the fanbase but the only thing he truly held to himself was his Quirk. That too no longer seems to be the case since according to the poll, fans like Explosion more than they do One for All. As per the poll, the top three quirks stand as Bakugo’s Explosion, Deku’s One for All, and finally Todoroki’s Half Cold Half Hot.

The results seemed almost concerningly shocking seeing how Deku’s quirk should have won without a second thought. This had fans assuming that for Bakugo to win, he did not even have to try and let his fans do their magic.

My Hero Academia is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
