Starfield is arguably one of the only first-party exclusives from Microsoft on the Xbox platform; however, the gaming community is anticipating an imminent port on the rival console. Recent events suggest that Phil Spencer has failed to keep his word again and added this to his pile of broken promises.

The gaming community is at a loss for words after this year’s Gamescom. Spencer reiterated that no other major first-party Xbox IP will be shipped to rival platforms and has taken away the community’s trust and little credibility the company head has left.

Microsoft and Phil Spencer went on an acquisition spree and among the studios that were acquired was Bethesda Game Studios. The studio has been working on a few projects meant to be available on various platforms; however, Spencer added these projects to his list of what many assumed to be high-quality first-party exclusives.

This year’s Gamescom hammered the final nail in the coffin after Geoff Keighley revealed that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be coming to the PlayStation 5 months after the release on the native console and making it a timed exclusive. This led fans to believe that everything Spencer said was a hoax and to anticipate the imminent arrival of other exclusives sooner rather than later.

The community has basically made peace with the fact that Phil Spencer does not necessarily have the best track record of keeping his word to the gaming community.

Months ago, he affirmed that neither of the mentioned games would be available on another platform, and the sudden shift in tone made him an easy target for the gaming community as they pulled out all the receipts of his past false promises.

It is worth noting that these games were likely being developed before the acquisition and optimized to run on the PlayStation 5. Spencer could have had a change of heart to share these games rather than keeping them tethered to one platform.

Recent rumors suggest that Starfield will likely be shipped to the PlayStation 5 sometime soon and Xbox fans are not thrilled.

The gaming community has no qualms about exclusive games being ported; however, this is where Xbox is the weakest, and Spencer is comfortable sharing these games without getting anything, like other-platform exclusives for Xbox, in return. This could be dangerous for the platform.

Microsoft has seemingly lost interest in competing against rival platforms and decided to give away what they have. This would encourage the gaming community to potentially turn their backs on the platform if all of the exclusive titles eventually make their way to other consoles.

Multiplatform games were in peril after Microsoft acquired various studios but, to some, there seems to be no serious ramifications or effort to improve the Xbox brand. The gaming community questions Spencer’s plan for the company after this.
