Fans are already hyped for the sequel of Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore following the actor-comedian’s announcement. The production will commence in a couple of weeks, and along with that great news, he also revealed that a special name will be joining the band.
The original 1996 sports comedy movie was helmed by Dennis Dugan, and despite the mixed reviews, it was a commercial hit. Now, with fans demanding follow-up almost thirty years later, Sandler assured them that they worked really hard to make this happen.
Adam Sandler Reveals Happy Gilmore 2 Will Have Benny Safdie
Along with Adam Sandler’s announcement of Happy Gilmore 2, he also revealed that Benny Safdie will have a special participation in the film. He didn’t specify what type of role or give any hint, but he only said “he’s going to have a juicy part” via IndieWire.
This is not their first time working with each other as they have previously collaborated on the 2019 crime thriller film Uncut Gems. In this movie, Safdie and his brother Josh served as directors.
For those who aren’t familiar with Safdie, he starred as Edward Teller in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist who is also known as “the father of the hydrogen bomb.” His other credits include 2009’s Daddy Longlegs and 2017’s Good Time.
Upon learning of Safdie’s involvement in Sandler’s sequel film, fans expressed delight and hoped to watch them two work together on the screen. Check out their tweets below:

Sandler is fond of working with his real-life friends on movie projects, so this does not entirely come as a surprise for many fans. In fact, they met last year for a live baseball film that did not get off the ground following the SAG-AFTRA strikes.
Part of the reason it was put on hold was because they missed the baseball season. A lot of the shots for the movie will be recorded live, though the actor still keeps his hopes up that it will happen in the future. For now, he’s busy working on Happy Gilmore 2 with Safdie in an undisclosed role.
What Do We Know About Happy Gilmore 2?
Happy Gilmore is one of the classic comedy films that fans loved and cherished through the years and it also helped establish Sandler as one of the greatest comedians of his generation. His costar Christopher McDonald, who plays Shooter McGavin, revealed having seen the script and confirmed the film is now in the works.
The plot remains under wraps, but so far, we know that it will be filmed in New Jersey and will cast real professional golfers and feature cameos that sports fanatics will easily recognize, such as Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce.
Happy Gilmore is currently available to watch on Netflix.
